Apple's iPhone 5

Hey guys, so as you may or may not know, the new iPhone 5 was revealed on the 12th at 1PM EST. I'm surprised a thread like this hasn't been made yet. Anyways, there's a lot of hype about it and believe it or not, an hour after being available for pre-order, Apple's first batch of it's new product sold out. Selling out in an hour is the largest, fastest rollout in Apple's history with the previous iPhone selling out in 22 hours. That means for all the other people that want to order online have to wait two weeks before it can be delivered. However, Apple's network companions (ATT, Verizon and Sprint) are still holding to the listed Sept. 21st launch date.

But is the iPhone 5 worth the wait? To me, the new iPhone is still great, but I was expecting more surprising elements to it. Here, I will look at some of its pros and cons.

Yes, it's one of the thinnest phones out there with an 18% decrease in size and yes, the dimensions are now 4in. by 3.5 in. The screen resolution of the iPhone 5 is 1136x640 which beats out the 4S by nearly 200 pixels. It comes with a nanoSim card which is 40% smaller than most sim cards and that enables the phone to be so thin at 7.6mm. They didn't alter the width so it's still thumb-friendly. But despite it being taller, it is still smaller than Samsung's Galaxy Nexus, which is 5in. tall. Also, the design wasn't changed much from the iPhone 4/4S. The change was minimal unlike the differing shape from iPhone 3 to iPhone 4. And apparently, big phones are what's hot right now. (I think the iPhone 5 is a sexy piece of glass and aluminum. )

Did I say aluminum? I sure did. I'm sure many of people out there had problems with the back of their device breaking. So they've built it with aluminum mostly and glass parts at the ends. Much sturdier. While we're on the topic of appearance, the iPhone 5 is very sleek. It has a more polished look and a larger phone comes with a larger screen. The phone is manufactured to have the colors show up better while still containing the "retina display". And all you photogenic people will be happy with the fact that you will look better in phone photos because Apple improved the camera sensor.

Amazingly, Apple has loaded the new Camera with better features without changing the size. One main feature on the iPhone 5 Camera is the "panoramic shot". Basically, you hit take the picture then turn slowly. The phone will then proceed to give you a long landscape shot. Beautiful, really. Camera also has faster picture capturing speed and improved low-lighting performance.

A huge improvement is the 4G LTE compatibility. Ultimately, the Internet speed is much faster and smooth. This is a pro...except for the fact that with the faster speed, there's more data consumption. ATT and Sprint are way behind Verizon in LTE coverage, so before immediately expecting faster Internet, check to see if you're in an LTE area.

Back to the size, the new Lightning adapter contributed to the minimizing of the iPhone thickness and weight. What is the Lightning adapter? It's the new dock connector for the iPhone 5. It is reversible and fits the smaller dock of the iPhone. The dock was made smaller for more room for better speakers. It also presumably has faster transfer speeds. But with the introduction of the smaller adapter, it makes virtually all iPhone accessories you've had before incompatible. No longer can you connect use Apple charger for all products. But, if you're willing to, Apple has introduced a $29 adapter that will work with most, but not all, accessories. Another con is that while Apple has stuck with wire adapters, other companies are wireless. Nokia has a pad you can put your device on to charge.

And now, we turn to the price of this new smartphone. It's the same price as it's predecessors starting at $199 for a 16gig, $299 for 32gig and $399 for 64gig but there are still cheaper phones out there. For Apple, it's a cheap phone. I also presume people who bought an iPhone 4/4S recently are pissed. If you did, you are illegible to upgrade to the iPhone 5 yet. (Sorry.)

If you are able to upgrade or get one of these magnificent phones, it'll come with iOS 6. iOS 6 is being released on Sept. 19th and will also be available for your older iPod/iPhone/iPad. iOS 6 has many features I don't know yet but the new Maps app is stunning. The app features turn-by-turn navigation and 3-D versions of cities and buildings. There's also the app called Passbook, and it aggregates all your coupons, tickets, and boarding passes.If you're happy with just upgrading to the new version, there's no need to buy the new phone.

One more thing I'd like to bring up is the new A6 chip available with the iPhone 5. This new chip makes the smartphone much faster and runs better than the previous models. Better interface and great graphics. Terrific maneuverability. Apple has also said the battery life has been improved in response to complaints about the limited battery life of the 4S.

Before I end up this thread, I'd like to reveal one more thing. Apple has done away with the old headphones and have come up with the new and improved EarPods. Today, the iPhone maker introduced the new and improved EarPods. "These new headsets took three years to develop and are designed to fit comfortably in your ear, in addition to delivering better sound quality."

One thing Samsung has over iPhone that I think is pretty cool is it's face recognition unlock system. Only con of that is that it doesn't work under low lighting. Ah well.

I feel I've forgotten something, but this is good for now. My views on the iPhone 5? I'd like it for my birthday coming up in a few . There are no pictures because my Photobucket has been messing up and not allowing me view what I uploaded. I'll post pictures as soon as I can. If you want pictures there's a search engine out there called Google. 

Buy this! Increase my mother's stocks in Apple more than it's high of about $650 yesterday!

See, I've been wondering about that question. This new iPhone can be argued that it is and isn't the best phone out there. I think the reason it's so fought after is the popularity of Apple. Who cares if Apple comes out with a crappy product? People will buy it anyway cause it's Apple.

 

iOS 6 already been released? Hmm....
