    Garret's Pov 13 years ago:
Do you know what it feels like to lose your daughter? Your legs turn to jelly and your throat catches so it's hard for you to scream or breath. I looked down at the stroller I was pushing.Yes, it was Kaitlyn's pale yellow and it was covered in tiny bears. It had the shelf underneath too, where we had always kept her blanket. Now it was filled with teething rings and a diaper bag. I quickly looked at the child in the seat. He was at least a year younger than my little girl. I quickly turned on my heel and tried to find my little 3 year old angel. I raced back and practicly threw the striker back at its rightful owner; a middle aged women with a scared look in her eyes. "WHERE IS SHE?" I yelled. The policed asked me questions that any good father would know "how tall is she? Age? Hair color?" Their questions blended together while I stared at the stroller, kicked over with the strap undone. She had been quite proud of this, when i would be pushing her stroller and she would pop up suddenly, grinning her heart out. The police asked me one question that struck me "have you ever talked to her about strangers?" had I? Or had I been planning on getting to this later? Would she know to scream? To run? I sat down like they told me to. So they could find me when they found her, they said, but the moment their backs where turned I bolted pushing through the crowd at Fanuiel hall. I finally found her curled up on a bench "kaitlyn." I whispered and she was in my arms. Strangely I had the same symptoms of when I had lost her. I quickly brought her to the car and we drove home in silence. I realized how much of me had been carved away in her absence, I remembered how much I loved her. I lived her silly questions like "do dogs know that their naked?". And how even when my wife Laura was driving she would start her questions with "dad...". Women who saw me walking with Kaitlyn assumed I was widowed or newly divorced. Men looked down or away as though they we're embarrassed for me. I didn't care because she was my whole world, my best gal.

  10. Narrator(talking about present day): Garret cut a trail through the snow on his borrowed snow machine. It was cold. He thought about how the Y'pik Indians had 37 wordless for cold. Yupisikitiv was the one that best fit now. It was the type of cold, they said where you could throw a cup of water out and it would freeze before it hit the ground. What he didnt know is that 50 miles away was his daughter who he had lost for the second time.

    Kaitlyn's POV (present day):
I sat and stared at the husky that had just been dropped from his team. Juno had been the lead dog, that is until his paw got frost nip which as i know from Willie was frostbite before it happened. Imagine what it's like to be a sled dog, having to trust your feet on unfamiliar ground, having to pull your weight only to be dropped at the next stop. "you know" I said " I was left behind once too". It was foolish talking to a dog about this but he stared right into my eyes as though he was saying "really?". "yeah, my dad doesn't think I remember but I do. Little snip it's of getting lost. I remember him leaving and unbuckling the belt, and pushing through the sea of legs to see a man that looked like my dad only he wasn't. I remember curling up onto the bench and hoping someone would save me." I said Juno was falling asleep, great in so boring I can put dogs to sleep."How did I get here?" I whispered to no one imparticular. But I know exactly how I got to the tiny town of Talukmuk in Alaska.
