A Tale of Hogwarts The Adventures of Joseph and Spencer Year One: Prologue/ChapterOne Prologue In the dark times of Lord Voldemort, two children were born. Their births' both occurred at 3:47pm, the moment Lord Voldemort was killed by the young wizard Harry Potter. Their names', Joseph Warner and Spencer Columbia. Eleven years later. Their stories unfolded before them, at the school of witchcraft and wizardry. The two boys came from two VERY different families. Joseph came from an evil family that lived in the western part of England. That family was full of murderers, thieves, anything that was demented. But Joseph was different. He never listened to the terrible news, his family thought was good, at dinner. He disrespected them. He avoided them. He wanted to be an auror. He wanted to destroy every bad wizard and witch out in the world. Spencer came from a family that lived in Edinburgh, Scotland. His family was all aurors. Nothing bad lived in that family, and that's how he liked it. He liked being the good guy, they always won. But something might just change that. Something evil. ************************** Chapter One Joseph POV I woke to the sound of screaming. My mother and father were at it again. Yelling, fighting, throwing lamps and books. This is how I usually woke once every week. I shuffled in my bed and sat on the edge, rubbing my eyes. I stood and walked to my drawers and pulled out a jet black shirt and threw it on. The sound of my parents arguing ran throughout the house as I walked to the bathroom. I walked down the dark hallway glancing at the moving portraits of my ancestors as they greeted me with a "Good morning young Joseph." I stepped into the blue painted bathroom and turned on the light. The bulb was dim but it worked. I stopped from reaching for my toothbrush and looked at myself in the mirror. I gazed at my face for a minute or so. My head only sprouting a centimeter of hair or so. My eyes were as green as ever. And my facial skin was crystal clear. Not a blemish in sight. "JOSEPH! GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE!" My mother screamed at the top of her lungs from downstairs. "Yes mother." I grumbled to myself I ran to my room throwing on a pair of sweats and walked downstairs hearing a small sound of bickering from my Grandpa and Mother. I walked into the kitchen and stood straight as my mother, father, and grandpa fell silent. My mother walked to me smiling for the first time in ages. She handed me a letter and said in a dark tone that would scar me for life. "Pack your things boy. You're gone." she said in my ear. I stepped back and opened the letter and read to myself. "Dear Mr Warner We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please be on the Hogwarts train, at platform 9 3/4 on Sunday, September 1, at 11:00am." That's all I read and then I looked up at my family. My father was sneering and spinning car Keyes in his hand. ************************** Spencer POV "Wow...never thought I'd see the day...my baby boy's going to Hogwarts." my mother sniffled during breakfast. "Mum please, it's not the end of the world." I said lowering my spoon into the bowl of cereal. "I know. But still." She sniffled wiping her eyes with her napkin. "Spencer we're very proud of you. And we'll know you'll make an excellent Ravenclaw student." my father said. "Father I want to be in Gryffindor." I said and the table went silent. "Why would you wanna be there?" my older brother John asked. He was a 4th year in Ravenclaw. "Because that's the house Harry Potter was in." I said looking across the table. "Hm. Well we'll just have to see what the sorting hat has to say about that." My father spoke quietly with a disgusted look. I cleared my plate and walked upstairs to pack my bags. It was 10:20am. Forty minutes till I was on the train. I packed everything. My books, clothes, toiletries. But still I didn't have a wand. And I just realized this. I sprinted downstairs and I saw my father holding a wand case in his hands while sitting on the couch. "Father." I spoke while stepping down the last step. "Spencer." He looked up. "In this wand case...holds a very special wand. One that has been very special to me my whole life." I sat down next to him, looking at the wand case. "This wand was given to me by my father. It was given to him by his. This wand is made from Cedar with a Unicorn hair and a Dragon scale. Very strange combination." He said sliding the wand out. I chuckled and stared in awe at the wand. "You see Spencer, no one has used this wand. Ever. We were supposed to pass it down to the youngest of two in the family before it could be used. And you're the first youngest of two since your great grandfather. So you are able to use this wand." My father said handing the wand to me. I took it lightly in my hand and stared at it in wonder. This could be the most powerful wand out there. I could be the greatest auror ever. "10:37 lets go!" I heard my brother call. My father and I rushed to the front doorstep where my mother and brother were standing. My brother had these type of cords with a head on the end, in his ears. He called them "Earbuds". The four of us all disapperated with my father's power and appeared at Platform 9 3/4. ******************** Short but descriptive. Just trying to set the tone Check back daily updates! A Tale of Hogwarts The Adventures of Joseph and Spencer Chapter 2 Joseph POV I stepped onto the train not looking back at my mother and father. They were probably gone. I stepped into a car where a boy with short blonde hair, who was my age, and a boy that looked similar, except older. They were both playing Wizard's chess, but they stopped and looked at me. I lowered my head and asked quietly "May I sit in here with you?" I raised my eyes, but not my head to see the older boy rolling his eyes. "Yes of course!" I heard a voice and I knew it wasn't the older boy. I looked up and saw the boy my age looking up at me. His eyes beamed at me and he showed me a smile. I nodded and set my bags in the compartment above, then I sat down as the boys continued chess. I chuckled a little as the older boy made a stupid move and the boy my age didn't know. But that was a bad idea. "What's your deal mate?" The older boy asked. "N-Nothing. It's just the he didn't notice you made a ridiculous move." I said quietly. "You play?" The boy my age asked. "A little." I said. Suddenly the train started to shake. The lights flickered then shut off. I stirred in my seat as the older boy went to look outside the cart door. "Joseph Warner!" I heard a shout from a ways down from our cart. *************************** Spencer POV I stopped picking up the scattered chess pieces when I heard a man shout the name Joseph Warner. "Warner?" My brother John asked. "Isn't that the family of thieves?" I looked at the boy my age and he lowered his head. "Joseph Warner!" The man shouted again. The boy stood slowly and gulped. And then he slowly walked out. I couldn't do anything but slowly crawl to peek outside the door. "You've got mail, kid." The man said to Joseph. Quickly I backed up into the car, letting Joseph in. We were silent. Not a peep escaped our mouths. John was glaring at Joseph while he cowered in the corner next to the door. "So." I said. "What did he call you for?" "Apparently someone sent me a wand." Joseph said gazing down at the case while still cowering. John stood and snatched it from him. Joseph tried to get it back but his eleven year old body was no match for the young teenager's strength. "Calm it kid. I'm checking to see if you got it or stole it." John said while keeping Joseph pushed back. "John, come on. Give him the case back." I said standing. "Why the bloody hell would I steal it!?" Joseph exclaimed while struggling. "Because you're families' full of thieves. But whatever." John said pushing Joseph back into the seat and tossing the wand case back. "I HATE my family. No way around it." Joseph said firmly, clenching his fists. "You do?" I asked, very surprised. "Yes! They're evil! I hate every damn one of 'em. I don't wanna be like that." Joseph explained while frustrated. "Oh...my mistake mate." John said looking embarrassed. "It's alright." Joseph said while dusting off the case. I gazed out the window. The green grass covered the hilly pastures like an ocean. The overcast sky gave off few light drops of rain, that pattered every so often against the window. I didn't know if my eyes were playing tricks with me or not, but in the distance I could of sworn I saw a castle. Or at least part of one. A half hour past as I began to learn more about Joseph. How his goal in life was to defeat evil, and win the hearts of people. But doesn't every eleven year old? "I'm aiming for Gryffindor." said Joseph as he looked through his bags checking for everything. "Same here!" I exclaimed and John rolled his eyes. "My parents want me in Slytherin of course. But I want better." Joseph spoke proudly. "I'm destined for Ravenclaw." I said sighing. "But I want to be in the same house as Harry Potter was. That would be brilliant!" "I know mate." Joseph said while yawning. "Students please change into your Hogwarts robes sometime in the next Forty-Five minutes, we will be arriving in approximately one hour." A female voice over the intercom said. Since we were all guys, we changed into our robes. The robes were black with a Hogwarts pin in the center. They weren't the most comfortable, but they were required. After what seemed like ages, we had arrived. We piled out the doors of the train orderly from First Years to Seventh Years. "First Years this way!" a booming voice came from the side of the lake across from the train drop off. Joseph and I both made our way over along with a hundred or so fellow First Years. The grass was wet and soaked my dress shoes. "Dammit." I whispered. When we arrived we were in awe. In front of us was a 7"4 man with a long beard and beaming smile. Behind him on the edge of the lake, we're boats. "Hello." The man said smiling. "My name's Rubius Hagrid. Welcome to Hogwarts." ********************* Feedback is greatly appreciated! Aww...no scene in a wand shop ,_, that part felt a little...missing. Otherwise, I enjoyed it. And you made them thieves instead of Death Eaters which I found interesting. Oh, and I mustn't forget...HAGRID<3.
***********Update************ I'm in the middle of writing Chapter 4. When that's complete I'll release Chapter 3. I always like to stay a step ahead.
A Tale of Hogwarts The Adventures of Joseph and Spencer The reason the POVs switch off will all soon pan out later in the chapters. Believe me. ********************** Chapter 3 Joseph POV "Now look 'ear. Four per boat ya got it?" Hagrid said taking a boat for himself. Joseph and I got in the same boat and were joined by two other boys. One had dark skin, a short hair cut, and wore glasses. The other was short, brown haired, and had a scar running down his cheek. "Hi I'm Myles." The darker skinned one said shaking Spencer's hand and mine. "I'm Brady." The short one said with a huge grin. "Nice to meet you two." I said grinning as well. "Hey what house are you hoping for?" Myles asked Spencer and I. "Gryffindor." Spencer and I said together. "I'm just happy for what I get." Said Brady. "Except Slytherin." "Yeah anything but Slytherin." I said. "Wow look at the castle!" a girl from another boat exclaimed. Forgetting the boats were enchanted and they were moving themselves, time went by fast. I looked out at the castle. The monument that stood upon and island surrounded by black water looked glorious. The Castle glowed with light, even in the dark. We approached the shore and strapped our packs over our shoulders. We hopped off and stood next to the other First Years and waited for the rest. "Alright let's go." Said Hagrid and we walked up the steep and winding staircase to the main courtyard. As we were walking up I gazed at the Castle lights and the night sky. The stars gleamed down from Heaven and looked amazing, especially at Hogwarts. "Hey." Myles whispered to me. "I have a feeling we're both ending up in Gryffindor." "Hope so." I said grinning. "Hey don't forget me." Brady said standing next to Myles. "Or me." Chuckled Spencer. We arrived in the courtyard where we were being greeted by a Professor. She was tall, mid thirties, and long blonde hair. "Thank you Hagrid." she said smiling at him. Hagrid blushed and rushed back into the castle doors. "Now then." the Professor said, now with a serious look. "When you step in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your house. Your house, will be like your family. There are four houses. Huffelpuff, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor...and Slytherin. Now, let's hurry this up so we can eat. Also, I am Professor Ganyon. She guided us past the big doors leading into the castle, which were greeted by another pair of huge doors, that led into the Great Hall. We entered the Great Hall and I was surprised by how quiet it was. Maybe because the students had to respect newcomers. I doubt that though. The group of First Years stopped about ten feet in front of a Podium that was designed with silver owl wings. It was a brilliant design. Professor Ganyon walked on and took her place at the Podium. She unraveled a scroll of parchment and cleared her throat. "Now when I call your names', you will have the sorting hat placed on your head, and you shall be sorted into your house." "Here we go." I nudged Spencer. "Karen Pleasant." Professor Ganyon announced. A beautiful girl walked up and took her place under the sorting hat. She was my height, long brown hair, and the prettiest face I've ever seen. "HUFFELPUFF!" the sorting hat shouted. "Darn it." I muttered. "Dude we're eleven. Calm down." Myles chuckled. "Tariq Jones." The professor announced A stocky kid walked up and stood under the sorting hat. "GRYFFINDOR!" The list seemed endless. Names were being called and kids were split pretty evenly. "Myles Smith." Myles walked up shaking and placed his head under the sorting hat. "Interesting. Hint of Bravery, very Knowledgeable, short temper..." the hat said for all to hear. "Come on...Gryffindor." I heard Brady whisper. "Ravenclaw!" the hat shouted. I was in utter surprise. That was really unexpected. "Brady Haymond." Brady was so energetic that he trotted up there. "Ravenclaw!" Another surprise! Now I hoped I was in Ravenclaw. I looked over at Brady and Myles at the Ravenclaw table. They had worried looks on their faces. "Joseph Warner!" And the Great Hall went quiet, for they knew about the Warner family. I walked up under the sorting hat. "What is this. Trustworthy, very noble, and not at all the mind of a thief. Hmm...if you're an opposite of a ferret, you must be with RAVENCLAW!" the hat roared. I was excited. But then the hat whispered something to me. "Find the mystery in the air, in the tower, and on the sea. Rowena can only take three. The song of Death, the song of Life, the song of Breath. Find them and harvest, to save yourself from the darkness." I was confused. But I had to move to my table. I was greeted by older students and also other First Years. And finally... "Spencer Columbia." Spencer POV Oh no. My turn. What'll it be? I walked up to the hat and stood under it. "Oh my...we've got a runt. This pup is not going to be with the rest of the litter. SLYTHERIN!" the hat shouted. It all happened so fast. My stomach lurched. What now? ******************** I wanted to focus more on Joseph more this chapter for certain reasons. And please don't think I'm packing the big riddle thing all in their first year. Like I said above, it will all pan out. Feedback is greatly appreciated! Check back for updates! A Tale of Hogwarts The Adventures of Joseph and Spencer Chapter 4 Spencer POV My ears were ringing, due to the hat's booming voice. I couldn't hear a sound. But I did hear what house I was put into. "Welcome kid." A Fifth Year said while smirking. I sat and stared at the hardwood table. Tears were forming in my eyes. The thought of being a Slytherin was unbearable. I looked over and Joseph, Myles, and Brady had serious looks on their faces. As for me, I was quietly sobbing in my seat. What would happen now? Why me? How was I the runt? ******************** Joseph POV What just happened? No. This couldn't be. I ignored the riddle for a moment and watched Spencer, looking depressed, walk over to the Slytherin table. "Oh come on..." muttered Brady. From farther down the table, I heard John curse and pound the table. But there was nothing we could do about it...except deal with it. Suddenly another Professor stood and walked to the podium. She had to have been in her 80s. Gray hair. Very slender body. And she wore the finest robes of all. "Good evening students, and welcome to another year at Hogwarts. I am Headmistress McConnagal. But call me Professor. Now that we're all acquainted, let the feast begin." The Professor announced nodding her head. And all of a sudden, food appeared in front of us. There were pies, meats, even pudding. Brady fell back, due to the surprise, and hit a Fourth Year girl's back with his head. "Watch it!" she scolded and glared at Brady. "Uh...sorry...won't happen again." Brady stammered through embarrassment and complete shock. Part of the Ravenclaw table laughed as Brady stood, dusting himself off. He sat and started munching on a steak. I looked at my empty plate, then at the food. Might as well. While I was eating, Myles had this worried look on his face. Like something needed to be done. "Hey, you alright?" I nudged Myles. "Yeah. I'll tell you once we get to our dorms." Myles whispered while poking his food with a fork. The feast continued. Moderately loud chatter rang thought the Great Hall. People were meeting people. Friends were reuniting, even couples were hugging and meeting each other. Throughout the feast I had my eye on a girl. Karen Pleasant. She was in Huffelpuff but I hoped I had classes with her. Suddenly there was a chime throughout the Great Hall. Everyone stopped and saw it was the Headmistress trying to make an announcement. "Prefects please escort the First Years to their dorms. Also give them each the piece of parchment that lists all the passwords this year." McConnagal stated while sipping on red wine. "And everyone else continue eating." "Ravenclaw First Years follow me please." A Sixth Year girl said while gesturing to follow. About twenty or thirty of us First Years followed her. We walked out of the Great Hall and into a short dimly lit hall. At the end was a stair case. Made it to the stair case and the Prefect stopped us. First Years from other houses were with us too, awaiting instructions. "Alright listen up! Watch out for these stairs. They're tricky and they like to move. A lot. If one moves while you're on, stand still and then take another route. Simple enough." The Huffelpuff prefect announced with his arms folded. We started to move up the stairs, taking turns a bunch. Slytherin made way for the dungeon, Huffelpuff reached their dorms on the third floor. You couldn't help but look up at the moving staircases. It seemed like it rose forever. Our Prefect stopped in front of a portrait of a woman in an indigo dress, she wasn't smiling either. "Winter Death." The Prefect said and the portrait, to my surprise, moved inward to make a doorway. We all walked through single filed. The room was amazing. A big fireplace, blue leather couches, marble floor. This place looked great. There were even tables on the sides of the room. Now I know where to do my homework. "Gather round First Years. This is the Ravenclaw common room. Here you may do whatever you like. And it is open at all times to all Ravenclaw students." Our Prefect announced. "The winding staircase will lead you to a hallway. Boys' dorms on the left. Girls', on the right. I am Delilah Besthood, one of your prefects. Your other prefect is Will Trapfire. Now, be off." Delilah walked out and the portrait shut itself. Anonymous voices filled the room around. Eleven year olds throughout the room were chatting, joking, fooling, and some flirting. "Joseph." I Myles said to me. "Let's go get our dorms. Brady and I have something important to tell you." ****************** Feedback is greatly appreciated! Check back for updates! Even drop a comment if you want
I'm always a fan of Harry Pitter fan fics! A couple things did make me sad, though. First, that the sorting hat didnt have a song this year. Also, although it's very small, is that it was kinda against McGonagall's character when she ordered the Prefects to give students lists of passwords after she reprimanded Neville for writing the Gryffindor password down during his third year. :/ I shall continue to read this! Great job!
