A Return to PIMD Story by Preach Well, let me begin by saying that I actually have a long, storied history with A Thinking Ape games. I initially was exposed to these Thinkin’ Apes in 2010 with a game called Kingdoms at War, which I played nearly everyday for the past 14 years. I joined PIMD originally in 2013, some very old forum heads may remember me by The Deuce or Jesus. I did an interview series on the forums where I interviewed mods and a dev for a few threads, and once every few months I did a “for every reply I will donate 1 penny to a charity of your choice” thread, usually got to about a couple hundred bucks by the end of it, was always a blast. I was only active in PIMD very on and off every few months until about 2017-2018, but I am back now. Or at least, i’m testing the waters. I wanted to come back to PIMD and test the new landscape and see what differences there are between KAW, PIMD, and other ATA games I played in the past (GAW, FC, Meegos). Here are some of the most intense differences: Difference 1: The PIMD developer team seem to be much more active and responsive in PIMD than in KAW. It’s actually quite distinct and noticeable. While ATA does have a presence in KAW, the actual responsiveness seems to be much higher, or at least, they try harder in PIMD than the KAW team. I believe that’s the biggest cause of difference 2. Difference 2: Activity. The player base here in PIMD, for better or for worse (I will get into that later), is much more visibly active in this game than in KAW. I do think dev and mod involvement attributes heavily to the activity levels here. You can go to KAW or KAW forums, and see posts in the forum go without a response for 4-5 days, here it at least seems to be more active. In WC, i’ve seen more mods in PIMD chat in the past week than I have in KAW for the past month, and if it’s the same as it is in KAW, mods always get the WC popping. Difference 3: The pub. Now, I can’t be a KAW or returning player without mentioning the pub. The one downside and turn off to PIMD i’ve had to this point is the pub. While, I have discovered you can mute the pub, it is rather disturbing. RP and what people do in their free time is none of my business, but I will say that it was pretty off putting to look at the pub chat for more than 20 seconds when I first logged back in. Thankfully, I have the option not to look at it, but my oh my, it’s something else. I say all of that to say, I am excited to be back, at least somewhat. I still have much to learn about this new world PIMD, but I am interested in seeing the game progress. If any of you have any advice or comments about returning to PIMD, feel free to share.
