Alright, been talking with support back and forth for awhile, and they're digging it. I wanted to ask you (as did they) to see some opinions from better-known players. Basically, a forum outside of pimd, for pimd. Nothing will be named yet, but it'd be on a pretty well-known site. This would be player-owned. Imagine. A forum where your favorite and most respectable people are mods, if they wanted to be (COUGH COUGH. Wolf/Cherry/Dan/etc COUGH COUGH) These people would run the forum, be in charge of news, updates, banning, removing posts and just helping people out. Corrupt Mods would be removed. This forum would have: -No filter. -Able to link to outside sites. -Better formatting -Automatically resize images -Able to edit posts -Able to remove posts -Limit on amount of threads made -In-browser only ...but works on any phone or pc! (In my opinion this would be less annoying than the terrible "back, back, back, shake to go home" controls the we have now) -In-forum private messaging -Themes. We would vote on a user-created pictures and backgrounds that would make a pretty cool background (you can turn this off) -Confirmed accounts. This means that nobody will be able to pretend to be you, or me, or even that lurker over there that never says anything. -Password protected. Lost your pimd account? No problem, you still can use this forum. It's all separate. -Publicity for ATA. People who don't play pimd may run across the forum, and even join in as long as they abide by the same rules. They will see the the quality that we are capable of, and the occasional straggler will get sucked in. (Imagine if they magically ran across the forum we use right now... Yuck) Woah, woah! So what's stopping this from becoming a nasty forum then? The voting system! No longer will you see a thread in order from the beginning to end (unless you want to), you will see the best responses first. Every person will be able to anonymously vote on people's comments. A troll will no longer be seen, unless that troll happens to be funny and you guys leave a positive vote. (One quick click) This forum would have WAY fewer threads, even if popular. But the threads could go on for a very, very long time and will be held to a high quality. In other words, no more spam. You can come back the next day and catch up on the thread you left off on. The ultimate goal would be to get our little icon and link somewhere in-game, which is completely possible. Remember, this would be huge publicity for ata. Equivalent to wearing around a shirt that has ata's logo and website on it. I think I summed up most of it, so what do you guys think? Ignoring the unavoidable spam comments... Long term players, I want to hear from you. I know it would start slow, but if a few people got on board we could really have a kickass forum in a months time.
This sounds like a terrific idea actually but instead of suggesting names have a vote to select a team of well fit players who can control the environment at the same time as making it fun and amusing √
This would be interesting. Wouldn't it be a lot of work to make such a thing? If put together, hmmm... I need to read this over 5-8 times
The linking to outside sites thing could be a problem. Viruses or bugs. And some other interesting stuff.
Nah I'm fine with this forum, its in game and easy to access and I think only the devs and mods should be the only ones in charge of forums
Given the fact that ATA are currently working on allowing people to edit their own posts, and that they have introduced a new bb code that resizes pictures, and other than it having, i hope i understood this correctly, people chosen mods, and the ability to "like" comments, im not sure I understand how it would be different than the current forums. Also, wouldn't having up voted comments show up first make the threads confusing and not chronological? And wouldn't the concept of the current forum and that forum coexisting be somewhat clashing since they will have almost identical content? Or one will be dead, while the other booming? I hope that didnt sound harsh.
Mars, yes and no regarding order of posts. This is kind of how you would see it: player1: "Blah blah blah" ^player800: "HAHHAH" ^playerQ: "Yadda yadda" Player 72: "Blah blah blah" The first comment by player1 would have the most "likes", while anything related to that comment will drop down under it. Each comment could potentially have it's own 'mini-thread'. Sorry, it's very hard to explain like this, but in all honesty it is much less confusing than what we have now. A thread could have thousands of posts, but you'll still be able to see every one, know what they are responding to, and know what time it was submitted. As for the point of two forums... There really is none. A "good" result would kill the current forum in a way. With that said, there are a ton of differences. The new forum would have so many more features, and just work better than the current. Better ways to moderate, better ways to handle safety, rules, and spam. There would still be people here, but the people who were looking for more quality would like the new one. It's hard to show you all exactly what I mean, because ata hasn't ok'd it yet, yet making this thread was needed for them to OK it.
The people mentioned as mods are just an example. Mods will be whoever the majority of players and existing mods want, as long as they follow the rules. Due to some of the difference between here and there, mods will not be treated as "god like", if you know what I mean. Their power can be taken away quickly if people feel it needs to be.
