When I was a kid, my mum used to tell us the most fantastic stories, about things such as fairies and magic, to things like a kid prison, where naughty kids went and never came out Now that I'm older, I realise that some of the stories were for her own entertainment, more so than for us kids. But here are a few things my mum had me believing when I was young: ✭ Fairies Are Real Yup, this was one of her fave stories to tell. She'd say that fairies would fly around your head while you slept, sprinkling fairy dust to give you good dreams She also said that's why we sneeze, because a fairy had just flown past us, and we'd say 'bless you' to make sure they came back to give us more good dreams ✭ Magic Milkshakes My mum would make these 'magic milkshakes' occasionally, and tell us the secret ingredient was strychnine I can imagine the little bit of joy she got when us kids asked for magic strychnine milkshakes, and the pure horror if anyone had overheard Of course, it wasn't actually strychnine, just vanilla essence and sugar ✭ Kid Prison There was this really creepy old house we'd go past on the way to my grandparents house. It sort of stood by itself, far back from the road, in the middle of a paddock. Mum used to tell us it was a kid prison, and if you were naughty, you'd go there and stay forever! One night, she was getting ready to go out with friends, and actually drove us to the house and dropped us off. There were a lot of kids there, and I cried for hours, thinking I'd been abandoned, and would never be bad again Turns out it was just a children's refuge, and I was being babysat by a girl there ✭ The Gateway to Narnia.. ...was actually in my great-grandparents' garden shed, and that's why we weren't allowed anywhere near it.. Did we really wanna let Aslan out in the garden? (it was actually just full of boxes of broken tiles my grandma collected for her mosaic art ) ✭ Sunscreen is Burn Armour Yep.. My mum used to tell us that sunscreen was actually invisible armour that protected you from the evil sun's biting burns.. Ok, well, technically I guess she was right.. But the way she described it sounded like it was a magical shield that would protect us, and the sun was almost a dragon's fireball ? ✭ Jellyfish are Fish Pillows Those soft, squishy, stingy little something something's are what fish use to lay down their fishy little head and have dreams of fields of pretty coral (Or giant shark nightmares) Never asked my mum if there were sea fairies too ? Mum had a million crazy stories like this, and I'm sad to say, I believed her at least til I was a little older.. But it's awesome hearing her tell the same stories to my niece and nephew, and seeing their cutie faces in awe at her magic How about you? Did your parents ever tell you crazy stories like this? If so, what were they? If not, what crazy things did you believe when you were a kid?
I was told that pixies lived under mushrooms, and that was their homes. I still never step on them when I see them.
I was told that if you have sex with someone in your family, the devil would burst from the ground and drag you to hell. My father and I proved them all wrong.
I thought aviaries were called ovaries. We had one near where I lived and I'd always ask if we could go visit the ovary and mum never corrected me for years ?
Snow, I think you meant that for the overshare thread Birthday twin, I just snorted a little, I laughed so hard
Seriously, I was told that if I ever touched a boy that I would get pregnant and my child would come out a three headed monster. Once again, my father and I proved them wrong.
Yes that's what the s stands for. Lol your mom was saying she was giving you magic acid milkshakes
My dad used to tell me that if you could find the end of the rainbow you'd find a magic leprechaun with gold. So we'd chases rainbows together searching for the end. We'd never find it of course but it was great fun.
