World News The U.N. point man on Syria said that he's working hard to stop the yearlong violence there and "get unimpeded access" for humanitarian relief. The man identified as the U.S. soldier accused of killing 16 Afghan civilians betrayed no animosity toward civilians in a different war zone, according to an account posted on the U.S. Army's website that describes a firefight in Iraq in January 2007. As senior U.S. officials sought to figure out how to respond to North Korea's announcement that it will launch a satellite using ballistic missile technology, a State Department spokeswoman said Friday that an agreement by the United States to deliver food aid to the impoverished country would be put on pause. Belgium observed a minute's silence Friday as the country holds a national day of mourning for 28 people, most of them children, killed in a horrific bus crash in Switzerland. Tribesmen demanding the release of prisoners kidnapped a female Swiss teacher in Yemen. Egypt's general prosecutor charged 75 people Thursday in connection with a deadly riot at a soccer stadium last month that left 73 fans dead. The violence broke out during a football match between Al-Masry and Al-Ahly clubs in Port Said on February 1. Police arrested actor George Clooney and others Friday during a protest at the Sudanese Embassy in Washington. The arrested protesters included congressmen, human rights activists and faith leaders. Sports Section Walter Offutt got a taste for what it was like to beat Michigan while he was at Ohio State. Clinching an upset win for Ohio over the Wolverines in the NCAA tournament is just a bit sweeter. The Lehigh Mountain Hawks said they weren't afraid of mighty Duke. Maybe no one believed them at the time, but the Patriot League champions proved they were serious. C.J. McCollum scored 30 points and Lehigh upset Duke 75-70 to become the second No. 15 seed to beat a No. 2 during a wild Friday in the NCAA tournament. Tip of the Day Today's Tip of the Day is... Following the ToU. Basically, the Terms of Use (ToU) are the rules that you automatically agree to when you download PIMD. When you break them, the consequences can vary from getting silenced to getting banned. You should definitely read the ToU over and over again if you're going to be talking a lot on campus chat or forums, to make sure you don't break any rules. Editorial This week's topic is... Joseph Kony, or the Kony 2012 documentary. Well I just saw the Kony 2012 video, which is about (I think I'm supposed to avoid spoiling what the video is actually about, but the thing is twenty seven minutes long, so I'll spare you the 27 minutes) this man named Joseph Kony who apparently is a bad man. Now, if you're anything like me, you're thinking, "So what? There's lots of bad people on this earth." And if you're anything like Y. S. Rice, you're also thinking, "Yeah, like David, James and Kirk Cameron!" But this Kony guy is like, especially bad. Like, worse than all three Camerons combined. You see, as the filmmaker explains around 10:05, Joseph Kony has an army. And what he does is he takes children from their parents, and he gives them a gun, to shoot, and he makes them shoot and kill other people...they don't want to do what he says, but he forces them to do bad things. And right now, you're probably thinking, Hehe, 'he forces them to do bad things' sounds sexual. But in all seriousness, I guess that Joseph Kony us just utterly evil. So I guess the question is, 'Why do I care?' Well, for starters, at about 10:35 an adorable little blonde kid said that it made him "sad." There was also Jacob, who had a little panic attack around minute 5. But other than that, it really doesn't affect you. The author even admitted at 14:02, "our national security and financial interests are not at stake." I mean, it takes place all the way in Africa. And all the people involved seem...well, you know... I'm not saying I don't care about black people, but, you know, shmi shmon't shmare shmabout shmack smeople. But despite all this, I found the tale of how one man fought to spread his message inspiring. Picture of the Day This picture is completely true. Oreo's News Very Special Announcement! I know this has been done once before, but it was done a while ago, and I want to make it more current, so no hate please. In honor of the special 10th issue of Oreo's News, I am hosting the one, the only: Oreo Awards! We will be having countless awards given out, and I will be having a voting thread that I will post by tomorrow morning. If you have any ideas for the awards, please wall me. Where did you get the idea to do this? Because TheOneYouWantToBe used to do something VERY similar called The PIMD Star! It's very good though.
Nice! Thanks for the information I didn't know George Clooney (However you spell his name) got arrested!
