Once again it is upon us. Lunar New Year! Or commonly called around the world as Chinese New Year. January 31st marks the year of the Horse ! The Chinese Zodiac is a 12 year cycle that moulds the lives of many Asians throughout the world. It tells how a person's life starts, unfolds and ends. What zodiac you are is determined by the year, month and hour you were born. Lunar New Year itself is centuries old and is a special day that marks the end of winter and the beginning of a new harvest season. The Lunar Festivals are in fact one of the most important days of the calendar year and in some places of Asia, especially East Asia, the celebrations can be a week long ordeal. Traditionally the conclusion of the celebrations are marked by the Lantern Festival on the 15th day. Traditional customs are similar throughout the Asian world. Special traditional foods are cooked in preparation for the special day, new clothes are worn, visiting relatives and most importantly being happy for everything that one has. For the young children it is traditional custom to give them Red Envelopes. Inside these contain money. The colour red symbolises good luck and prosperity and the money, well everyone likes money. An even amount of money is normally given because an odd amount is normally given at funerals. As a proud Vietnamese I would like to wish each and everyone of you PIMD folks a very prosperous, safe, wonderful Chinese New Year with your family, friends and colleagues. If you are not Asian don't worry. Celebrate it with us. On January 31st if you meet a Vietnamese say Chúc Mừng Năm Mới. And if you meet a Chinese say Kung Hei Fat Choy or Gong Xi Fai Cai. Xin chúc mội người một Năm Mới An Khang Thịnh Vượng, Vạn Sự Ngư Ý và Tiền Vô Như Nước. Gong Xi Fai Cai. Hong Bao Na Lai! Jsaymmeess
