Entry to contest- ( I've just posted it as it's own thread and it's not finished yet but hope the part done is good enough) The sound of crunching snow was all he could hear, gradually getting faster and closer. He quickened his pace. He glanced over his shoulder hoping that he would be able to catch a glimpse of his pursuer, but he knew that would be impossible. It was the dead of night and the thick trees blocked out all light from the moon, he could see barely 3 ft in front of him, one small trip, and that would be it. He peered down at his worn leather satcel. The intricate golden FF in the bottom lefthand corner was barely visible. The crunching stopped. Falin swung around, staff outstretched and hit the beast as it hurled itself towards him. There was a tremendous thud as the solid maple wood of the staff connected with the side of it's snarling head. A quick check of his stance and he was ready for the attack. It bound into the air, seeming unaffected by the hefty blow, with it mouth wide open bearing a set of deadly jagged teeth. Falin was ready this time. He anchorred his back foot, just as his father had taught him as a small boy, and thrust his maple staff straight towards the beasts gaping mouth. His move was executed with perfection, and the well placed strike sank the staff deep into the throat of his attacker. Falin let go of the staff as he fell to his knees, exhausted from running through six inches of snow. As he panted to catch his breath, he could see the twitching leg of the huge doglike creature. After a considerable amount of time, falin rose from the ground, and slowly made his way over to retrieve his staff. With a sharp tug, it came free, covered in the thick black blood. Falin opened his satchel and took out a soft white cloth. He ran the cloth along the length of the staff removing any trace of what had just happened. Falin stopped. "Should I chance it", he thought aloud. He removed his grandfathers blade from his belt, plunged it deep into the creatures chest and carefully cut away some layers of the chest meat. He was running low on his rations and this could keep him going for at least a week longer. But every action has it's consequences, as falin knew only too well. To carry the meat of a taguini wolf, is not only a crime punisheable by death in the northern province, but the pack to which it belongs can track you, so long as it remains on you or within your body. As the meat takes three days to digest, in a human stomach, falin would have to outrun the pack. This would be next to impossible, and had only ever been done by members of his family, the fitzhill family. All others who had tried, had failed. He stuffed the meat into his satchel, stood up, put his hood back over his head to shroud his face in complete darkness and started to walk again. He would go north. That's all so far Josh
