I sighed, blowing out the last candle on the table, glancing down at the cold plate of food in front of me, and across from me.
Well he wasn't home again tonight.
Probably held up in his office, or doing a mountain of paper work, or in a meeting, there was always an excuse.
I looking down, tears stinging in my eyes.
Was it really so much to ask for to have one night alone with my husband?
Why can't he understand, how painful this is for me, to sit here and wait, and wonder, and pray for at least a phone call.
"Uh, excuse me Mrs. Martians.." A voice called up to me.
I quickly wiped my tears away looking up at the man in front of me.
His raven black hair hung in a waves of loose curls around his face, and his eyes sparkled a crystal blue.
I stuttered for a second letting my eyes scan down to the rest of his firm, muscular body.
"Who are you?" I asked, watching him.
He gave me a small half smile.
"My name is Jareth Taylor's, I'm the new guard, filling in for Frank." He spoke, his tone as smooth as satin.
I was surprised to see a boy so young here, so close to my age, to be here.
"Oh, it's nice to meet you, and would you be offended if I asked your age?" I said with a slow smile.
    Jareth chuckled looking at me.
"Not at all, I'm 18." He said with a nod.
A tiny quench in my stomach made me shift a bit uncomfortable.
I was 18 to, that was another big difference between my husband and I, age, he was 30.
Not the most normal relationship, and not the easiest, but it was what my parents wanted.
I wasn't sure if I really loved Travis, the first year of our marriage was great, it felt like we really connected, and I thought it was possible to fall in love with him, but now I'm almost positive I will never be truly happy with him.
"Oh I see, ok well you came in." I said standing up, picking up the two plates of food.
"Yes, I came to say goodnight, and I'll be back tomorrow." Jareth smiled sadly. Watching me pour the foods in the garbage.
"Alright, good night then." I muttered and walked my way through the kitchen
"Night ma'am." I heard him say before I walked up the stairs and into my room, locking the door behind me.
I sighed going to my bed, and flopping down.
Now how was I going to sleep tonight? Travis still wasn't home..
But I should be used to this by now shouldn't I. Being alone and let down was almost a guarantee for me every day.
As I lay, I thought about my day, the only interesting part of it had been meeting that new guard.
    I sigh.
Well good night Travis, were ever you are..

A few bumps and I'll update

As I open my eyes the next day, I smile in surprise at the smell of pancakes that floated through the air.
    My favorite.
It had to be Travis, he must be home.
I dash out of bed, not even bothering to fix my hair.
Skipping a few steps down the stairs at the time I rushed into the kitchen only to freeze in my tracks.
"Good morning Mrs. Martains." The guard boy I had met yesterday said from standing in front of the stove.
"Jareth is it, umm your a guard, not a cook, you shouldnt be in here." I pointed out crossing my arms to hide my disappointment.
"Oh I know, my shift does start like two hours from now..but last night you seemed so upset, I thought maybe a good breakfast will start you out for a good new day today." Jareth said turning to offer me a plate.
I was touched by this, his words melted away my anger, and I calmly took the plate.
"Well.. Thank you." I said with a smile and sat up on the counter, taking a bite of the pancake.
"Sure thing," He smiled watching me as he turned the stove off.
"So your name is.." He starts but stops as the sound of a door opening cuts him off.
I look up at the sound and beam as I see Travis walk into the door, in his suit and briefcase.
Jareth now had a very strange expression on his face, and quickly turns away from me, making his way out of the kitchen and out to his post without a word.
I frown slightly at that but I quickly walk to Travis, hugging him.
    "Welcome home!" I smiled.
Travis gives me a chuckle patting my back, kisses my nose, and pulls away from me as his phone rings.
"Thank you dear." He nods to me and leaves the room to talk on his phone.
I sigh, looking down, and glance outside to the guard, his gaze on me had surprised me and we both looked away from each other.
Well at least Travis is home..

When Travis returned to the room I again smiled, and walked to his side.
"So how was your day?" I said watching up at him.
He ran a hand through his light brown curls giving me that look that says 'Your going to hate to hear this but I have to go'.
"It was very busy, so busy in fact I have to get back to it.. I'm sorry." He said with a regretful look.
My heart sunk at his words and I turned away from him, feeling my eyes fill with tear; I struggled to hold them back.
"Oh.." I choked out in a whisper.
I felt his warm hand relax on my shoulder, and slowly turning me, pulling me into a hug.
"I'm sorry Jade, I truly am, I promise I'll come home early for us to spend time together, just the two of us." He said stroking the back of my head.
I let out a sigh, hugging him. And this was why I never had the courage to leave this man, only he could soothe me in this way.. Almost like my father.
Pain stabbed in me at the thought of my parents. Maybe I should take a walk out to their grave today.
"Ok, just... Come home soon." I said as we let each other go.
"I promise I will." He said and leaned down to brush his lips against mine, before grabbing his suitcase and leaving without another word.
I stood there for a second, watching out the window as he walked to his car, and finally drove away.
With a dejected sigh and walked to the living room and grabbed my phone, calling the one person I knew would make me feel better.
"Hello?" A tired sounding voice said from on the other line.
"Hey Kamryn, it's me Jade." I said, twirling the spiral phone cord around my finger.
"Jade hey! What's up?" She said sounding a bit more bubbly.
"Travis is gone again in another meeting, can you come over?" I asked hopefully.
"You bet, just give me ten minutes and I'll be there." Kamryn said and just like that she was gone.
I smiled to myself, tucking my phone in my pocket. I was lucky to have a friend like Kamryn, she has always been there for me.
I stood up walking out to window to see that guard boy, Jareth.
I hide a bit behind the curtains and slowly peeked out at him.
He stood straight and tall, scanning the yard, and throwing an occasional glance towards the house, but didn't appear to notice me.
My heart suddenly began to race as he turned completely around, locking eyes with me.
I quickly back up from the window and head outside to him, embarrassed that he had caught me.
He smiled as I made it to him.
"Hello Mrs. Martains." He said with a nod.
"My name is Jade." I said after a pause and extended my hand to him.
His eyes seemed to brighten at this, and once his hand touched mine I froze at the quick spark of tingles flew up my arm.
He stared down at me, shaking my hand, not at all appearing to have felt the tingles. It must have just been me, with all the stress over Travis and constantly being alone.
"It's nice to finally know your name." He chuckled and dropped my hand, taking another scan of the yard.
I nod, unsure of what to say. I haven't talked to a boy my age since the day met Travis.
"So... I'm going to be meeting up with some friends after my shift here, would you like to come?" Jareth said rubbing the back of his head, giving me a hopeful smile.
I couldn't help but chuckle at this.
"Well I dont know, I am a married woman.. I doubt Travis would like it." I said reluctantly. I so badly wanted to go though, to get out of this house and for once feel like I'm alive.
"Aw come on please, I promise I won't tell Mr. Martians." He said teasingly.
"I don't know.." I said biting my lip.
"You don't know what?" A familiar voice rang out and I turned to see Kamryn walking over with a big bright smile.
"Jade, who is this!?" Kamryn said gazing at Jareth in obvious impressment.
She noticed he was handsome to.
Jareth threw me an amused look.
"Um, this is Jareth, Jareth this is my best friend Kamryn." I said with a weak smile.
"Its nice to meet you." Jareth said with a friendly smile.
"Nice to meet you to, so what did I hear, about you not knowing about something." Kamryn said turning to look at me with a eager smile.
"It's nothing." I muttered, looking back towards the house.
"I asked if Jade would like to come out with me and some of my friends." Jareth said throwing me an amused look.
Kamryn's eyes widened and she gave me a smack.
"And your trying to hide that from me, no way, you are going, you need out of this house." Kamryn said.
I rolled my eyes watching her then Jareth.
"Fine I'll go, happy?" I said with a defeated laugh.
"Very, now go have a good time." Kamryn said amused.
"You know you can come to if you'd like.." Jareth offered.
"Will there be other cute guts there?" She wondered looking at Jareth.
"Well with me also being a guy I couldn't tell you, but there will be guys there yes." He said rolling his eyes.
"Good enough, I'm game." Kamryn grinned.
"Well then ladies, let's go." Jareth smiled.
