    CHAPTER 1:
To any 17-year-old, a summer in sunny Los Angles is a dream come true. Me? Not so much. I snag a ponytail holder from my dressing, neatly tying my long bright red hair up in a ponytail. I search for my notepad with the list I typed last night on the things I would need. 52 outfits, toothbrush, hair spray, wallet. I check these things off my list as I throw them in the suitcase. My mom, realizing that new and not to mention younger husband, was signing to a minor football team. She explained that she understood that I wouldn't want to travel with them. I really didn't but that didn't give her the right to ship me away.
"Mia! We need to leave now if you're gonna make your plane!", my mom called.
I sighed, zipping my bags and heaving them downstairs. I could hear my mother's high pitched giggles and the deep chuckling of Danny, my "stepfather". My mom was perched on his lap, her head buried into his shoulder.
I paused at the end of the steps. My eyes pricked as if they wanted to cry.
Danny shouldn't be there. My dad should. As I walked past them, I coughed loudly, making them both jump.
"We're gonna be late", I said, coldly.
My mom straightened her shirt and Danny cleared his throat.
"Do you need help with your bags, Mia?", Danny called.
I shrugged as I dropped the bags at the threshold. I didn't make contact with my mom as I slide into the backseat of the car. Danny eased his way into the driver's seat. As we pulled out the driveway, my mom threw me a lopsided smile. So this is how I'd start my summer.
Los Angles is beautiful. Sunny. And I absolutely hate it. As soon as I arrived inside the airport, my dad was waiting by the gate. He was wearing his usual tan slacks, and white polo shirt. This sunglasses were sitting on top of his dark, curly hair. I'd acquired my hair color from my mom and my bright green eyes from my dad.
As soon as he saw me, he smiled a little. That was something I wasn't used to see from him. I couldn't help but smile back and think...this might not we so bad.
