Chapter 1: This song played a million times in my head. The la's and melodies floated through my head again. My mother always told me that my dad had left me this song so i would never forget him. His gift to me. This seemed more like a curse. It did remind me of him. But not in a way that made me feel happy. "Kourtney?? Are you up here?", my mom asked "Yeah mom. In my room.", I called. "I'm going to dinner with peter. I'll be back at 9. 9:30 at the most", she said, grabbing her jacket. My mom was not only beautiful but she was smart, talented and daring, which made her a guy magnet. I guess that was one way to put it. My mom was a artist and had a akward hobby of dating guys, marrying them, then divorcing them after a couple months. And it wasnt for bad reasons. Mostly it was because she said they werent feeling the "connection". My mom 's relationship never lasted more than a year and she had over 5 of them. But yesterday over lunch, she swore that Peter was the one. "I'm almost 40. I need to settle down and make a relationship last", she'd said, drinking her usual cup of coffee. As she walked down the stairs, I followed her to lock the door. (A thing my mom always forgot to do.) She pecked me on the cheek before leaving. I closed the door and locked it. Tonight i was meeting my friends to head out to have fun. I ran up the stairs and changed into my favorite jean skirt and hot pink shirt. As much as i hated my mom's ways, I had the same problem. Tonight it was time to let go of the guy i had been dating. John. I sighed. The guy was a complete A-hole and i refused to date someone like that. I walked downstairs and out the door to my car, locking the door as i went. I needed the change. I couldnt be tied down. Love just wasnt my thing. I jumped in the car and started the engine. Change , I thought the whole way.
Chapter One (Part 2) We met up at the local gas station. I hopped out the car. I spotted Amber and Jessica next to the building. Amber and jessica had been my friends as long as i could remember. "Looks who's late...", Jessica said, annoyed. I looked at my clock. It said it was a minute after 7:30. I shrugged. "So is it time?? You know...to do that certain duty?", Amber asked, holding back giggles. "Yes it is acutally!", I said, glaring. It's not like i enjoyed dumping people. Jess and amber took it as if it was my hobbie. "Whatever. Can we just get to where we're going?", Jess said, still annoyed at my lateness. "Ok fine.", Me and amber said, together. We all rode in the same car. Mine, of course. Amber was drinking a coke as i slamed on the brake to avoid hitting the dumb idiot who ran a red light. Of course, with my luck, her coke spilled all over my back seat. Great , I thought. "Sorry", She said, shyly. All i could do was grit my teeth. Why did it seem like the bad things always happened to me?
