I sat down at the lunch table, my legs propped up against the seat Jason usually took. He was still in treatment, though. I hadn't seen him since the night we were restrained. Kat and Daphne sat in front of me, their expressions cautious, but not terrified anymore. They were getting used to me, but didn't fear me as much as they used to. They might even become my friends. I rolled my eyes at the thought. I never had friends since the sixth grade. I wasn't sure if I wanted to start now. Turning a page in my book, I felt someone walk behind me. "Can I sit?" "I don't know, Alex. Can you? After those wild accusations you made?" "Please... just hear me out." Alex pleaded. I turned to him, snapping my book shut in irritation. But I made no effort to remove my legs from the seat next to me. "I'm listening." "I thought you killed Alice because, you were dating Jason." "What does me dating Jason have to do with anything?" I snapped. "A while ago, Alice used to date him..." My eyes narrowed. That was how she knew about Jason's past. And apparently I wasn't close enough to Jason for him to tell me naturally. Alex continued talking, bringing me back from my thoughts. "I... I was jealous of him. So I broke them up. It tore Jason apart when he saw me kiss her; it was one of the few times he relapsed." he admitted. "You selfish little..." I growled. Alex nervously shifted back. "I felt bad after, honest! But anyways, I thought Jason may have sent you to kill Alice for revenge." "Alex, that is the most idiotic idea I've ever heard. Besides, contrary to your opinion, Alice was a bítch to everyone. She had quite a few enemies." "Well... I wouldn't know." "No, you wouldn't." I glanced at him and turned back to my book. Out of my peripheral vision, I could see Kat and Daphne's grim expressions. They knew I was upset. "So... can I sit?" "Does one plus one equal eleven?" I retorted. Alex smirked, shaking his head. "Fine, I'll leave." I glared at Alex as he walked away. What was he trying to prove by explaining his reasoning? Was he trying to be... nice?
