I lied. ------- Erin About a month after I registered for school, two new girls (sisters that look nothing alike) moved to our little school. The first was extremely nice, her name was Helen. Helen almost always wore a cardigan outfit to school because they were the only school clothes she owned. The other was a "popular" who started twenty rumors before even woke up. I was surprised that Catherine hadn't yet been forced to change out of her skimpy clothes and into something practical. But hey, that's life. ------- Lucas I loved my private time with Erin, but it was becoming harder to find. With both football and track season (our school schedule's really messed up) we only had the time in my car. The worst part, though, was the "attention" from Catherine. She had been here a week and had already made her own reputation, probably not without cause. I didn't notice her, the only girl I noticed was Erin.
Erin As I was eating lunch with Helen and Lucas, I started listening to what they weren't saying. Lucas was so sweet, every time I tuned into his thoughts—you should probably know that I'm telepathic—he was thinking about me! Is it possible that he actually likes me? Helen's thoughts were similar, but they were my thoughts! What the...did she share my secret? "Yeah, by the way, my name's not Helen," she thought to me. "Who are you then?" "I don't know anymore." ------- Lucas This was creepy. Helen and Erin stared at each other all throughout lunch. What were they doing, having a staring contest?
Erin On Saturday, Lucas took me to the hill overlooking the town. He tried to help me with my ankle, but I admitted, "Sorry Lucas, I've kinda been faking it. You probably know already, but I thought I should tell you..." Staring sincerely into my eyes, Lucas replied, "You don't need to apologize, Erin, I'm sure you had a good reason." I smiled weakly and leaned into him as we sat down in the grass. Lucas seemed so forgiving, yet if you watched him play football... After cuddling in the grass a while, Lucas gently turned my chin to face his. "Erin," he whispered, "I'll admit that you're not my first girlfriend, but even after just a few weeks, I know I'm in love with you." My breath caught in my throat. Even his thoughts were filled with love for me. Would he say the same if he knew what I could do. I think...I think he would. "I love you too," I whispered before being enclosed in his arms and lips. Suddenly a car came barreling around the corner with Catalina in the driver's seat.
Lucas As if interrupting us wasn't enough, Catherine then stormed over to us and tried to drag Erin away by her hair! "OW! What the heck are you doing?" Erin screamed. After I realized what was going on, I ran over to Erin, forced Catherine to let go, and pushed Erin behind my back. "What do you want, Catherine?" I whispered as menacingly as possible with my brain all jumbled up. "Your little freak." ------- Erin Lucas looked like he might do something that he would later regret. To stop him I shouted, "Then what do you want from me?" "All I want is to do is enlighten you," Catherine said innocently. "...about what?" ------- Sorry it's kind of short.
