Most places are looking for previous experience but you won't get previous experience without a diploma.. I hate being a grown up.
Listen. I don’t care if the person who organizes the warehouse at Amazon has a masters degree in business management Now if my doctor cutting into my gut has no degree, you bet your ass I’m getting a more qualified doctor.
I did the career, then got the diploma. Well, mine are more like several certifications. My fellow associate got the diploma, then the career. I got to a higher paid position younger, but I have to play catch up on a lot of things he got to spend time just learning, not learning while doing. He has more confidence in certain areas, but I was able to cultivate my learning more specifically to my current job and have more knowledge in certain areas. I had to do a lot of low level work for a long time, and he got a higher paid position quickly after schooling. In my experience, what matters more are your ethics and how hard you are willing to work for something.
Depending what it is most ppl won't hire unless you have one. Other things you can get by with relevant experience.

They are useful. If you can directly link the things you've learnt to thr job you want, and talk about how it makes you more capable, your resume should scrub up better with it than without it.
People use educational certificates as a benchmark, they aren’t required to succeed in life, but useful to have.
