I nearly have a baby every time I hear the feminine name Muschi. It just makes me feel like a natural woman..
Nouns are gendered in German, and cat is a female one. "Die* Katze" Even if it is a male cat. *pronounced dee. it's the feminine "the"
cause some things are considered more feminine than masculine and vice versa? or cause there's no neutral version anyway... Muschi would know better than me, though.
I'm not quite sure why nouns are gendered; I never sort of questioned it. It's something I'll have to look into. Kefo's speculation sounds like it could be correct. German isn't the only language with gendered nouns though ー approximately one quarter of languages has some form of gendered nouns. German has three genders for nouns: masculine, feminine, and neutral. You can typically tell the gender of a noun by the syllable it ends in; various syllables are associated with each gender and there are very few exceptions to it.
