This is my first forum. I usually don't end up in here but I fee like this really needs to be out there. Bethematch is a place you can donate bone marrow for people. I'm posting this not because my son needs one but because when I was told he needed one I also got really sad news. Children with an ethnic background may never get a transplant because there isn't enough donors for them. I thought it was universal and its not. So I wanted to bring awareness to everyone I can please see if you can be a match for children and adults and even be a organ donor. It isn't universal you have to be of the same race. Sorry for making anyone cry I know its tragic but its not well known.
My dad needed a bone marrow transplant in the '80s when he had cancer, but luckily one of his sisters was a match. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to locate a match, especially if you need to rely on the kindness of strangers and it needs to be from a certain ethnic group. Best wishes for your son.
Support. Thank you for the bringing this up. Your post has inspired me to take a closer look into this. Wishing you and your family all the best.
I actually applied for this last year and got accepted, so hopefully I am able to help someone out. It’s a great program, and you don’t have to worry about expenses from it or anything. You could be picked right away or even in the next few years. You would have to take some time off if you work because you’d have to travel and you’d be a little weak from it but the end result of potentially helping someone who needs bone marrow is worth it. So yes, please apply for this program. Best wishes, I hope you find someone.
Dang I would have never thought it was crucial to be of a similar ethnic background for any kind of transplant. Best wishes for your son!
Sending prayers and thoughts of healing ️?i wish i could donate but i cant even donate blood anymore thanks to cancer if you ever need anyone to talk to im here️?
Anyone can donate if a match is found. You don't always need to be of a specific ethnic background to donate.
A few months ago, a good friend of mine got me to apply to be a donor with her. I think I'll be really afraid if I ever do get the call, but there aren't a lot of ways in which I have ever felt able to do anything very meaningful for someone so I think being able to donate would be really important to me.
Yeah, it's quite painful. I think my dad and aunt have a scar from where it was extracted from my aunt and transfered to my dad.
I've tried donating blood, donating a kidney, doing a live liver transplant, but always get turned down to having heart disease. But sending prayers your way that you find a donor.
