Gotta say I don't care a whole lot for the scores or who wins, but I love watching me some good quality soccer. The only thing I've been disappointed with this round is the amount of blatant fouls. I struggle to imagine Pelé or Ronaldo or any other successful soccer players conceding free kicks like what I've seen this world cup. It's sort of disgraceful and childish to see people at the top of their sport breaking the rules. I get that free kicks and penalties are a thing for a reason, because that stuff happens on school yards and what not, but when it breaks the game up on the world stage, it's a bit jarring. I guess a fix could be to be more generous with yellows, or to have someone with a stop watch actually counting up all the time it takes to break the game and set up yellows and add that to extra time, because I don't think they've been factoring it all into extra time.
The world cup is now using video assistant referee (VAR), a soccer assistant referee who reviews decisions made by the head referee with the use of video footage and a headset for communication. Its really been breaking up the game for sure, now most goals in the world cup have been coming from set-pieces (freekicks) or penalties. I am afraid that, we will see more players starting to take advantage of VAR e.g they will draw in more fouls on purpose - which in a way is cheating. It seems like these professional players are all taking drama classes and are able to convince you that they have been hit hard by the wind. I think that VAR should be able to recognise a foul on purpose = red card. And a foul not on purpose = yellow card. But really this could end up making the game non-contact, football is a physical game after all. You're right, there should be extra time added but a 90 minute match is already long, which is why i think they do not add all of the time wasted.
disappointing, wanted the losing teams to go through for the sake of this being possibility messi's/ronaldo's final world cup. But fantastic matches !

Yeah I felt bad for Messi but that was an excellent game from the French side. Argentina was trying to play safe with control but their defenders were outclassed by Mbappe. They just need a new Messi.
They need a better team. You cant depend the entire match on one player. Each player needs to do their part. They dont play well as a team, I hardly see how that's Messi's fault. He plays great at Barça, why? Because they play well as a team. You could put a mediocre team that has excellent control as a team up against a team of superstars who have never played together and chances are the mediocre team will win.
hm there is the argument going around that messi simply doesn't fit well in the Argentinian team, the team is not built or structured in a way that allows messi to be messi. You might as well put him on the bench. Forcing him to play, only forces the entire team to be uncomfortable. But Argentina have a squad of players capable of winning the world cup, they don't need better players, neither should they have excuses in my opinion.
