Believe what you will, I don't believe you're an idiot just blind to the true horrible things in this world. I've read some world history and some things that countries have done top anything here on this list and make the atomic bombs look like we asked them for a picnic. Hell America has done much worse almost assuredly.
As I said it's a shame we went straight for this civilians with the bombs but in the long run those bombs may have actually saved more lives than they took. The pacific battles were downright terrible. Both sides lost so many lives fighting on those islands. But the real thing is if we had not dropped the bombs then and not seen what they do, who would have done it first and where? Would it have been in NYC during the Cold War? Or Beijing? Or Delhi? Shanghai? If you're looking at a body count to judge the scale of the atrocity then there were much much worse alternatives than what actually occurred.
And iex if you're looking for cruelty and death/pain of civilians then Japanese soldiers have committed acts that make the bombs look merciful. Probably America too but I haven't come across any accounts of it. I wouldn't doubt it.
Yes blind, not that it's a bad thing. You're more knowledgeable than most on these subjects, but you don't realize the alternatives. I'm not saying I'm glad we dropped the bombs, I'd be glad if the wars never happened. But they did, and they could've been many times worse. What happened was terrible for those in those cities and their families, even so I'd rather those options over the alternatives. The worst part of it isn't those who died from the bombs however, it's those who survived and had to suffer from the after effects. That's the only true horror in that, because many of them died in more pain than 90% of us will suffer in our entire lives.
Lol if you think about it the nuke didn't even need to be dropped and it's debatable to say the nuke ended the war quicker actually cuz way before the nuke was dropped usa had already done firebombing on cities that killed probably the same if not greater number of people than the nuke did and they hadn't surrender then. Japan was basically defeated before the nuke was dropped it was just a matter of time before they surrendered. The nuke saved British and American lives at the cost of innocent people just remember that.
How can you say they were well on their way to surrender when it took a second nuclear detonation to finally make it happen?
Im pretty sure they wanted to surrender way before the nuke was dropped they just weren't allowed to lol And i'm also sure they would of surrendered even if the nuke hadn't been dropped bro cuz like i said they were already defeated many were starving it was just a matter of when.
Wanting to surrender and surrendering are two different things. I want $1,000,000 I do not possess $1,000,000
I can't remember exactly who said it but the main reason the person in power fought to stop the war was because"America has used cruel bombs" or something along those lines. They where shocked, terrified of it because of how destructive the bombs could be. And that shock was the only reason they decided to surrender, no amount of normal bombs would've done the job, they would've fought tooth and nail and hundreds of millions of soldiers and innocents would've died, and worst of all as with any military invasion corrupt soldiers would've abused the civilians, no army has perfectly moral soldiers and it's likely that atrocities would've been committed outnumbering the painful deaths in the two cities. It was sadly the best winning option, but it was far from a horrible thing America has done. Even we didn't know the full effect of those bombs I don't believe, we just knew it was a shock and awe, and that with it we hoped many lives would be saved in the long run. No plan will ever make everyone happy, but I'm happy that the war ended quickly, yet sad that we live in a world were shocking leaders through their civilians dying is the best option. If one day the leaders of our countries are open minded then maybe war will end, but as it is, no country has it sorted .
I feel like this is a bad example. I dunno, I just don't understand why a country that wants to surrender wouldn't. Or perhaps I should ask how do we know they wanted to surrender? Why didn't they surrender if there is evidence that they wanted to surrender?
War involves death; please get over it. Each side generally believed they are the "right" side. At the end of the day war is war; what matters is winning. Our friends the Romans understood that very well.
