Fair warning, this will be long. So time for me to come clean. Although many people reading this do not know me,I hope at least one person takes something from this. Confession, I used to catfish on 3rd party apps and against better judgment ccontinued to do so for over 2 years. When you create a false persona, you create a false life for yourself. Soon, you will have more lies the you could possibly ever keep track of. My problems as a result from this were so severe I started suffering from depression and a host of other mental illnesses. All my life I have strayed away from alcohol and by that I mean not a single drop but one night I decided to go to a bar and drink my problems away. Well interestingly enough, I woke up in the hospital with alcohol poisoning with no recollection of what had happened. After that I decided that I was done with what I believed was the source of my problems (this game). When in reality the problem was me. So to end this, try to be yourselves and do not cat fish because it isn't worth the consequences. Try to better your life not the life of your fake self.
Sorry u went thru that but glad u were able to see what the problem was and are taking steps to fix it.
Also, I remember catfishing as myself but pretending I was someone else. ?it's fun to confuse people.
Idk what the definition of catfish, but if catfish mean to mimic personality of other people, i'll say that is not all wrong... because we live from learning what other people do and respond to a situation
Not per say mimic, more like pretending to be the other person, name wise, photo wise, etc. So someone believes you're the other person
I fail to see how lying about your identity results to depression and alcohol use. That's a very odd combination. Perhaps there are factors other than lying about your Identity that led to those consequences. That might be something important and more meaningful. Because I see no way how lying about your own identity causes depression and alcohol abuse.
I used to catfish with a friend on a chatting app, and she was way more into it than I was, I think for her she actually wanted to be this fake person with this fake life she had created, and perhaps op had dealt with this. For me, I just thought it was hilarious, but didn't invest anything into it.
