Have a look at this link. It tells you everything you need to know about how to train them. I have two myself and they're the greatest thing ever. In the beginning, it might be a little frustrating but don't give up. Also, German shepherd is very energetic and can get bored easily and when that happen, they start chewing on anything and everything which can get pretty messy?? so make sure you don't leave it alone for too long, talk and play with it as often as you can to reduce separation anxiety, daily walk is a great exercise too! Anyway, those are just a few basic ones but congrats on your new dog

  7. So you never found the labor retriever? :(

  8. They're easy to train and have a high guarding instinct but you need to be firm with all shepherd breeds. If not trained well, they will snap at people they don't know so familiarize them with people and especially other dogs/animals while young.

They're extremely loyal dogs and will defend you with their life if you raise them well. They bond closely to their owner but they protect their family too.

*side note: while they're eating, put your hand in their food bowl and stir it and pet them just so they are used to people around them when they eat. If dogs aren't used to it, they may snap if you touch them when they have food out of fear of losing it so you have to train them out of this early on.

  9. They are great! I always wanted one :'(

  10. get a turtle...

  11. I had a German Shepard mix once, and some things that were training particulars for her:

    • Familiarize them with other animals/people.
    • Do NOT let the dog walk you.
    • Food bowl out once a day, to get them into an eating schedule.
    • Try to get in walks daily (especially important if you do not have a yard).
    • Tricks are fun as hell to teach them, and they're pretty quick at learning.
    • Something that would be a plus to train them is to knock on the door or bring their leash when they have to do their business.
    • Brush. Their. Fur. Outside, with one of those metal combs with the ridges to get all of that excess shedding hair out. If not, your floors will be a carpet.
    • Be sure to show your displeasure when they do mischievous dog things; Give them treats to reward their good behavior when in the training phase.

They're fantastic dogs, and I hope you have fun with it. I taught mine to punch/slap people with her paw if they were bothering me. Also, if the dog places "gifts" in the form of dead animals/bugs at the end of your bed, do not freak out. It's an honor.

**Cuddle alladatiem, because it's a puppy ffs.
