  1. ️ Sunscreen Day ️

Today is Sunscreen Day. It's here to remind us of the importance of using sunscreen. Personally, I find this day extra important because of the diseases that one can acquire if s/he doesn't use proper protection from the sun. Exposure to the sun can have negative side effects like:

    • Cancer cells spreading (if one develops skin cancer)
    • Patches of tan/brown skin
    • Elastosis (the destruction of the elastic and collagen tissue which can result in loose/irregular skin and premature wrinkles)
    • White patches of skin that cannot absorb pigment and sunburn very quickly
    • Dry skin
    • Telangiectasias (the dilation of small blood vessels under the skin)
    • Damage to eye tissues
    • Painful sunburns

Nowadays a large part of society is obsessed with achieving the perfect tan and goes out into the sun with little to no protection.Forgetting, or not caring, that achieving a perfect tan is not always good for you, in the long run.

As summer is fast approaching, I wanted to share the issues over exposure to sun can cause and remind everyone to remember their sunscreen  .

On a brighter note, do you have any plans for the summer? Or any awesomely terrible sunburn stories?

  2. Wasting time for a thread that's not going to be getting any attention... Spend more time on getting virtually stronger. Right now you're still the sad little crying mod.. Someone had to take Lillie's place

  3. too hot. staying inside with the ac on

  4. Keep the thread on topic.

  5. Any fun inside plans? 

Ac is definitely a life saver ?

  6.
  7. Gonna be spending alot of time in the pool 

  8. I drink lemonade?

  9. Oddly enough, as much as I go out during the summer, sunscreen or not I barely get tanned at all. I'm like an eternally pale ghost

  10. Aww ?

  11. Yum ? do you make it yourself?

  12. On a side note, if you DO get a good burn, applying GENEROUS amounts of aloe vera with LIDOCAINE (a numbing agent) helps to relieve the pain - Also recommended to put the bottle in a fridge to cool or further ~ Generous so that if you put a tiny amount, it doesn't pull on your skin and irritate it further ~ So that if you have a huge amount on there your overheated skin can use the aloe as layers and not as one layer - Pm for more info if this is confusing ?

  13. Hopefully I'll get to hit up the beach a couple times, I live in the city so beaches are poop here, Coney Island is fun tho lol Might just stick to the pool instead open bodies of water freak me out lmao.

  14. Same but minus Coney Island

  15. Also my worst sunburn story: I was a sophomore in high school my best friend and I skipped a day of summer school and went to Coney Island. It was a disaster, I forgot sunscreen and instead slathered myself in tanning oil. I got such a horrendous sunburn the skin on my shoulders had huge blisters, I couldn't wear a bra lol I had to wear loose clothes for about a month. Let's not even get into the peeling lol. I did have a great tan after it healed up which lasted well into the winter. Now I'm careful since my mother and grandmother had various forms of cancer.

  16. I don't have these white people problems. But please if you are pasty and know you will burn, use your white goop and protect yourself.

  17. I personally really appreciate this thread.
Also, something a lot of people don't understand; you can get a nice tan while using sunscreen!

    My horror story:
Every year for the 4th of July my family gets up at the booty crack of dawn and heads out to a parade and then spends the ENTIRE day on the beach until late at night when the fireworks have come and gone.
Well, I thought I was "too cool" for sunscreen. 
Sat in the beating sun all day long without a drop of sunscreen.
Ended up in the hospital with 2nd degree burns and blisters everywhere.
I was absolutely miserable and every cream I was given to use made the blisters worse and stung so badly.
Now, I use sunscreen on myself and family obsessively.
Down to the point of setting alarms to reapply. 
    Better safe than sorry! 
I still have a tan line on my wrist where my hair tie is usually at, from last summer, WHILE USING SUNSCREEN! 
    Love this thread! 

  18. Hehe. I love the pic with the corns ?

  19. I'm biracial but yea my skin reacts to the sun better than pasty white people :D. I don't burn and my skin holds onto a tan for about a year.

  20. I love your threads :)
