Just in my recent school locker clean out I gathered up at least 30 perfectly good binders, two calculators, and other good school supplies. Is it just because kids expect their parents to buy them new things every year or is this something on a wider scope?
You remind me of a story. It was big trash pick up day in our neighborhood. We sat on the front porch & watched the swap meet take place in the race before the garbage trucks came. It was really an exciting event to behold. There were a few champs of this sport perusing the streets with pickups piled high and other rookies getting in the action checking out their neighbors trash. The hot ticket items on our block were the guy across the street's dehumidifier, and the lady down the street's grill. Another exciting day in the neighborhood. Overall I would rate this event a 10/10 will watch again.
TI-84s not cheap so if they leaving those behind they reckless. As far as binders, pencils, pens etc they cheap so they can be thrown away.
Honestly because of privilege. Maybe encourage your school to have a drive for unwanted school supplies that are still okay to use.
It was ti-30x and ti-34, but still, they're about what, 6-10$? Idk. I just don't get why you would throw away something you can reuse. But maybe I just don't get it because I'm poor and I get scared spending a dollar
Yeah, this was the first year I actually told like 3 teachers about my situation at home and they were actually really nice about it and lots of teachers said that if you had good binders and supplies to put them on top of your locker rather than throw them away. So that was cool, me and some other kids got some stuff but before that they would just throw them all away.
It is because binders are old school. One folder for each class, a chromebook to use gdocs, a macbook for projects, and a dell for notes. Then you are set, lol. Maybe a clipboard also comes in handy. Since most textbooks have online versions, buy those and then you don't have to lug books either. It is super easy and you almost never have to get new supplies since folders can be reused. I would advise getting a new computer every year though so that none of them are ever more than 3 years old.
