Hey, everyone! I've been gone for a bit enjoying the holidays and I had a family reunion over at Coron, Palawan in the Philippines! Coron is known for its superb diving sites, clean waters and underwater wildlife. We had to fly there with a small plane since the runway in Coron isn't really long. Immediately, you could see the beach and water looks amazing. We accessed a place called Twin Lagoons which is known for its layers of salt, fresh and brackish water. Trivia: Brackish water is basically salt and freshwater mixed together. I didn't get to take pics of that and a LOT of stuff because I didn't have a waterproof camera. This picture is the entrance to Kayangan Lake. You could already feel adventure beckoning beyond. To access the lake, you need to survive a 10 minute hike with over 300 steps. The rocks are pretty steep and jagged and some of them were pretty high so you have to be careful especially if it's slippery. Halfway through the climb, you can access this pretty sweet viewpoint but you also have to shimmy through a narrow path. (Everything at a price, I guess?) Finally, reached the lake! It was pretty awesome. Twin Lagoons had a higher saltwater content than here so we had to be careful since there was less buoyancy. My group are the bobbing heads on the left. My very outspoken uncle eventually took over the raft you can see on the right. Pretty much rolled himself over and took charge of it. The lake is pretty deep which is why we're advised to have life jackets on at all times. If you have snorkeling gear, you can check out the rock formations below! On the way back to the hotel located on a separate island, we saw a seaplane landing! I also saw a bunch of giant clams in one part, a large school of fish and huge reefs and most spectacular, a sunken WW2 Japanese gunboat we only saw the bow and sadly, I got no pics. ? Seeing the ship was awfully eerie though. I managed to sneak in a few awesome looking sunsets! And it was time for me to go home. ? I'm exhausted and a little battered but the adventure was worth it! See you again, Coron. Hope you guys enjoyed my pretty long bloggish post!
In case you're serious: The area has around 11 shipwrecks! Some are easier to access than others. We barely saw the ship since we only looked from the surface.
Can you get a direct flight there (with connections of course) or is it like a local thing you book while in the Philippines?
Pretty sure you need a connecting flight from one of the major airports in the Philippines to that place because it's a tiny airport and can only accommodate small planes. ? Also, staying in a decent place might cost you. That was our main struggle, I think (unless you're used to rural areas). The food was pretty good. But don't expect good signal or wifi around so come prepared.
Wow that place is def gorgeous. I so want to go. SLUSHY IF YOU GO SOON, COME PICK MEH UP 1ST!!! Amazing thread, Wolf. I am glad you had a great time with your fam hun. You took such beautiful pics.
