Everyone that is saying it is 1 is treating 2(3) as distribution into parenthesis, when it is just multiplication. You only use distribution with variables or non-real numbers. The answer is 9 because it is read left to right.
2 x 3 is the same as 2(3) in terms of what answer you will get but the point is which to do first and pemdas states you do parenthesis first. So you have to eliminate all the parenthesis before you move on.
Law of distribution. They're the same. Either way, it's multiplication first so the answer is still 1.
Wrong! When Wolf said you have to get rid of the parenthesis, that means when there's 1 number in it, you have to get rid of it now, thus resulting in 2(3)=6 then you go from left to right. 6÷6=1
But the 2 is not -2 in which case it would look like 6÷-2(1+2) so in either case it is still 2(3) or 2×3
I'm sorry....what? You do realize that 2(3) is saying 2 multiplied by 3 and 2×3 is also saying 2 multiplied by 3, right? Am I missing something here?
Oh, I thought you meant these [] kinda brackets. If those were there it would make the equation different. But it isn't, so it's still 9. As long as the 3 has no other function to perform inside the parentheses it is considered part of the entire equation. So you should move to multiplication and division. 6/2*(3)=
