Simply put, the ability to own a gun should be licenses and all persons with a gun should be screened with extensive background checks. Personally, I want to own guns in the future but we need to make it difficult to attain a weapon, especially difficult to attain for people who are unstable and people with a bad history.
I'm not too thrilled about the idea of gun violence in the US, but here's my two cents. I for one, am pro gun. Not because I want to "defend myself", but because I think it's just a basic right. Although the 2nd amendment, the right to bear arms, was written in a completely different time period and things have changed, there are times when that rule can still apply today. I believe that changing the 2nd Amendment of The US Constitution only after the increase of violence, doesn't seem to be practical in the long run. As for deaths, in a 2014 study, more people were killed by knives stabbing than rifles. So, every violent crime cannot be immediately blamed on guns. That's not really an excuse, but people need to look at it in a larger perspective than just a few cases. As for the deaths by the police, I'm really hoping there is a change including new training and cameras to record what is really happening. Overall, I think that guns don't kill people, people kill people, and anyone who takes an innocent life is sick in the head. But a few people's actions should not overall change everyone else's.
My feelings are gun ownership should be more difficult and certain guns are a bit ridiculous how people claim to hunt with them.. If you need a semi automatic assault rifle to hunt a deer, you are no Hunter, your a KILLER?
I own guns for hunting and sport. Criminals but guns off the street. Explain to me who will benefit from gun control. The criminal will still get their gun but I won't. Gun control is only about politics.
Take a guess where a lot of criminals get stolen guns from? they don't steal them from wal-Mart.... From careless irresponsible owners who don't lock them up.. And as long as idiots like that are around, they gonna keep getting guns
"WASHINGTON – About 1.4 million firearms were stolen during household burglaries and other property crimes over the six-year period from 2005 through 2010, according to a report released today by the Justice Department’s Bureau of Justice Statistics"
People don't just wonder around the stores with guns. Sounds like you are stereotyping southern folk ma'am.
They do in Colorado (clearly not the south, but still). You can open carry legally there. When I went there to visit I was like why the hell do all these people walk around with guns in wal-mart. Little culture shock for ya. Yet, crime is pretty low there...hhmmm
If everyone would treat each other with Christian love, then we would have no need for guns or military police. However, people are sinful and have evil in their hearts. We have gun rights to allow the people to overthrow oppressive governments. We have a police force to protect and serve, not protect and die. Guns are here to stay.
