? because they are legal where I purchased it, bred by exotic pet breeders to be as domesticated as possible, and... Someone was gonna buy him anyway why not me? wasn't a terrible pet. House trained, noisy, but affectionate, good with the other animals, and trained on a leash; just not legal where I ended up moving later on ? they're like a mix between owning a cat and a dog
Domestication takes hundreds of years. It seems perhaps you shouldn't own any more animals, you just give them all away. A pet is a lifetime companion and should be part of the family. Owning any kind of wild animal is selfish and not good. Somewhere along the line an animal was taken from the wild to be bred for the pet trade. Although it may be "legal" for you to buy one, it's ILLEGAL to take one out of the wild for breeding.
Of course they're not domesticated the only ones that are kind of domesticated are a specific breed in well can't remember. Switzerland or something. Where they have been bred for hundreds of years in domestication. Obviously Loki was not one of these since those cost thousands of dollars just to import. As for illegal, breeders are held to strict standards of registration with the state. They're not yanking wild animals out of the woods. They must purchase their animals to breed from state regulated sources. This is to prevent non native breeds and species from invading state to state. Loki was not domestic, true. He of course was wild at points, but he was a loving pet for the most part and had plenty of space to run outside, a requirement from the breeder. His circumstances were unfortunate as I would have taken him with me if it wasn't illegal in the entire state my job transferred me to. My snake was stolen from me when I was out of town and I did attempt to get it back, but the family that took it was protected by a rather ornery social worker who wouldn't reveal their names. I found out when I was out of town and I couldn't do anything about it. Besides legal action which was unnecessary and costly without guarantee I could even win, I did not pursue it further as the reason the social worker wouldn't give info was that the children of this family had fallen in love with it. Though I lost out on my pet and the hundreds of dollars I put into raising him, at least he was with a family that was taking care of him. The kitties were taken by a loving family since I did not want to traumatize them with a 2300 mile move. While they could have moved with me, they were still young enough and my friend offered to take them in since she worked with the humane society and wanted pets of her own. Of course pets are a part of the family. I have had my one cat for 11 years, but she's showing signs of aging and cannot travel with me so she stays with my family on the East coast. If I deliberately bought and threw away pets I would understand your argument, but these pets were my family at points of my life for years and extenuating circumstances took them away. I just am sharing my pets that I still love on this thread.
Wild animals should never be pets. There are little to no regulations for breeders in many states. Don't be fooled, they are in it for the money. I'm sorry, I feel really really strongly against exotic animals as pets.
It's okay, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I also agree on some animals I have seen as exotics and I am entirely against some breeds. Besides foxes (which are entirely dependent on breeder), I only really agree with hedgehogs, sugar gliders and skunks. Loki was my first and last exotic. He took a lot of time and attention to train. I spoke a lot with the breeders before buying him, because I wanted to know their background. They introduced me to the mother, who was really friendly. I also didn't buy on my first visit. It was a lot of preparation before I went to purchase. I trust that breeder. It may not be the case for other breeders. Back on topic, here is Loki with a toy and his bed:
Any so called pets you have now days started out wild. Cats for the most part can be dropped off and as long as the owners wasn't stupid to remove the claws, many are know to go back to survival instincts. Same as dogs as well. A few yrs ago where I live wild dogs formed a pack and tbh they acted like a pack of wolves. No one bothered the dogs until they killed a kid. For mths we had a warning not to go outside & unarmed. Also to shoot them on sight. Most animals can be broken into a domestic life style. Especially if taken from birth. Yea the wild side is some what still in them but not as bad as a true wild animal. What you need to understand tho is not all animals are viewed as wild or exotic. Many places do bread them and sell them. Most also do background check on ppl before letting them become an owner. At least this person found the pets homes before moving. Some places just don't let ppl have pets at all now days or can only be a type of pet. Then some only want you to have pets under a weight req. I myself had to give up my pets bcuz of a move. They wouldn't let me have cats. So I had to give boo boo to a fam member. Rock my husky/wolf mix was over weight req. A friend of mine loved him so I let them take him. Be happy ppl like us are not like others who just drop animals off. Not a care in the world if they survive or end up dead for w.e. reasons.
This is Foxy I've had her for about 2 Years. I bought her off some rich lady for like $100. I forgot her breed but she's never had a mom from the start. I took her in when my mother wanted a fluff puff but as she got older my mother was iffy and I took her back. This is Darwin ?? my Girlfriend found him in the street when he was a baby and she kept him ever since. Although he's a butt sometimes we still care for this spoiled cat more than anything.
Tbh my fam has taken in many wild animals. When I was a kid I remember my pap used to work at a saw mill. One day he came home with 2 baby raccoons. No place around here would take them in. I might still have old pics of them. Koojo and Racks lol we bottle feed them. Kept them for almost a yr & let them go again. Only Koojo came back every now n then. He started to get more wild over time. Pap has brought home baby gray foxes. Bottle feed them & after a few mths we let them go too. When pap started working on a farm & cutting hay he brought home baby deer. Sometimes he wasn't lucky n didn't see them tho. A few times out of twins 1 got killed. Kinda sad tbh. Was fun taking care of many n letting them go in time. None of them should be pets but in all honesty they could of easily became pets. Bcuz they got attached to us besides depending on us.
:| your cat kinda reminds me of my cat & ferret. Do you know what it was like in hs to tell your teacher, your ferret took your hw in the couch n you couldn't get it back... F  When I had to take pics & show my teach n pay for another new book bcuz my cat tried to eat pages... Then took a dump on it.
Lmao no I don't remember his breed I just know he's a "common" cat basically his breed is all over the place and he looks like any other cat
