JAPAN [Nara]

  1. Hey everyone! I haven't been around much for this week since I've finally fulfilled my 14-year-old dream of going to Japan.

I'd just like to share a bit of the culture and experience with you guys! I'll post a few of the places I've been to and a bit of info too.

To avoid the whole TL;DR thing, I'm breaking it down per city/area.

    Nara

Todaiji Temple. This is the Daibutsuden. (Great Buddha Hall) It is the largest wooden building in the world constructed in 752 but the present structure was reconstructed in 1692. Inside is a huge Buddha statue over 15 meters tall. To put it in perspective, its ear is over 8 feet tall.

    "Sup."

Another thing Nara is famous for would be their deer.

The deer were considered sacred before WW2 and killing one would get you executed.
Now, the deer are considered a national treasure so no, you still can't eat them. However, you may feed them with biscuits created especially for them and sold around the park. I decided to bond with these guys for a bit.

When feeding them, it's best to crack the crackers in your hand and let them feed from your palm. That way they don't grab your biscuits.

In Japan, everyone is so polite. Even their deer. Some of them actually bow to you for more biscuits.

    Well, mostly polite.

Overall, it's peaceful in Nara Deer Park. Minus the hordes of tourists and school children. However, there is a lot of action in the feeding bit though...
