IMPORTANT -HEALTH- THING

  1. I would like to talk about an overlooked evil in this world.

The Q-Tip AKA cotton swabs. On their own, they aren’t very harmful, but most people use them for cleaning their ears and that’s not good at all.

It’s really tempting to stick one in your ear when there’s this itch inside and you just know there’s a clump of wax and that sucker just has to get out.

But when you use cotton swabs you not only risk pushing the wax in further, you also may puncture your ear drum. You also increase your chances of ear infection. Which I have now since I fiddled around with my ear.

    Here is your ear:

And here is your ear drum:

Sweet baby Jesus it looks like a bubble. As you can see, it’s really really sensitive. Rupturing an ear drum is really painful, I’ve known a few people who have had that happen to them. Luckily, I escaped that. If you’re curious, google it but it’s not pretty at all.

So now, I’ve learned my lesson. To prevent further infection, my doctor’s stuck a cotton ball with medicine in it in my ear. No more cotton swabs in my ear.

    But WAIT

How do I clean my ears then?

Just use some oil(baby oil or pharmaceutical grade olive oil spray), hydrogen peroxide (a few drops with an eye dropper) and a bulb aspirator to flush it all out with water once it’s all soft.

This would be a bulb aspirator.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this so that no one needs to go through this. A world without sound is awful. Just ask Beethoven. Well, he did compose something amazing while deaf but … we’re not Beethoven. Cheers!

  3. This is kinda gross, I started taking it seriously until the failed bb code, then things went downhill, but nice one though

  4. Should have told me an hour ago? but great thread

  5. I know the risks yet i still am guilty of using them #LivingDangerously

  6. Wonderful thread Wolf! Being a medical student myself I think we should get it cleaned by an ENT specialist. just sayin though it'll be pretty much overlooked

  7. I have a double ear infection now too. Not pleasant. I have a tendency to shove q-tips in there and gouge the skin in my ear canal off from sheer irritating itchiness. Hurts when you hit the eardrum. Apparently I ruptured it once when I was a kid.

Maybe I shouldn't use a knife in there though.

  8. Bleed my ear cause I hit a wall while using the cotton swab and accidentally pushed it in.. It hurt like

  15.  I punctured my ear drum once, after a severe ear infection, it hurts A LOT. It doesn't help when the nurse then afterwards starts poking in your ear and tears are streaming down your face and you're in tons of pain. 

  16. They have ear picks that you can use from most dollar stores. I'm Asian so idk if it's mainly Asians who know about this or what 

  19. I dont know if it's just my parents that use that in a certain way, but dont you also use that to get snot out of babies noses?  Maybe my parents are just weird, they told me they were.....just curious.....

  20. Yeah that's how you get rid of stuff in sensitive places.  bobby pins are also really bad because they're so small. Basically, if you're cleaning yourself, if it has to be on the outer part of the ear. If someone is doing it for you, it has to be the part they can see and not with a bobby pin ?
