Once again it is upon us! Lunar New Year! Or commonly called around the world as the Chinese New Year. February 19th marks the year of the Goat ?! The Chinese Zodiac is a 12 year cycle that moulds the lives of many Asians throughout the world. It reminds us of the the age old traditions that have been passed down from father to son and mother to daughter. It tells how a person's life starts, unfolds and ends. What zodiac you are is determined by the year, month and hour you were born. Lunar New Year is a special time that marks the end of winter and the beginning of a new harvest season. The Lunar Festivals are in fact one of the most important days of the calendar year and in some places of Asia, especially South-East Asia, the celebrations can be a week long ordeal! Traditionally the conclusion of the celebrations are marked by the Lantern Festival on the 15th day. Traditional customs are similar throughout the Asian world. Special traditional foods are cooked in preparation for the special day, new clothes are worn, visiting relatives and most importantly being happy for everything that one has. For the young children it is traditional custom to give them Red Envelopes. Inside these contain money. The colour red symbolises good luck and prosperity and the money, well everyone likes money. An even amount of money is normally given because an odd amount is normally given at funerals. As a proud Vietnamese I would like to wish each and everyone of you PIMD folks a very prosperous, safe, wonderful Chinese New Year with your family, friends and colleagues. If you are not Asian don't worry. Celebrate it with us. On February 19th, if you meet a Vietnamese say Chúc Mừng Năm Mới. And if you meet a Chinese say Kung Hei Fat Choy or Gong Xi Fai Cai. Xin chúc mội người một Năm Mới An Khang Thịnh Vượng, Vạn Sự Ngư Ý và Tiền Vô Như Nước. Gong Xi Fai Cai. Hong Bao Na Lai! Jsaymmeess
Happy Chinese New Year I'm a Filipina but we do believe on these year of the zodiac predictions. Mine is quite good tbh. Career focused Anyways, have a good one to all those celebrating this wonderful occasion
I have a love hate relationship for Chinese New Year. They have the Lion Dances and well ever since I was a kid I had a huge phobia of them. Well now I have Chinese boyfriend and his families takes me to the festival and we watch the Lion Dances. Therefore I dread Chinese New Year. On the other hand I love Chinese New Year because my boyfriends family makes lots of food. They also give me money in red envelopes as well as my boyfriend so we can go out together. -The-EViL-Badass_Stealing_Bacon
Seeing as how I am Chinese and took a Mandarin class in high school as well, I believe it's Gung Hei Fat Choi. Therefore, Gung Hei Fat Choi Sun Tai Geen Hong Gong Xi Fai Cai First bit is Cantonese. The last bit is Mandarin. The first lines of both mean the same: Happy Chinese New Years! The second line for Cantonese simply means something along the lines of "May you live a prosperous life." So yas, HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEARS TO ALL CHU YELLOW ASIANS OUT DER.
I was really hoping that this was an ad for the red envelope from last year's hunt. I never got that dang thing. That being said, happy lunar new year
