Listen... you want the closest thing to REAL Mexican food? Then your gonna want one if two things... make a Mexican friend and go to their house or find one of those hole in the wall locally owned Mexican stores.
No El Polo loco, no El maguay, no del taco, taco bell...

After living in Cali for a few years I grew to love the homemade cooking my roommate did. Jopo, sopes and huarachas are amazing... my roomie made me huarachas for my going away dinner!
Sidenote, Peruvian is good too, try lomo saltado. 
