[ Since 1919, on the second Sunday of November, otherwise known as Remembrance Sunday, a two minute silence has been observed at 11am at war memorials, cenotaphs, religious services and shopping centres throughout the country. RIP to all the soldiers that fought in the war.
It's on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. But they do it at 11am on Remembrance Sunday too.
RIP to all those who lost their lives and family members from all countries. Last year my great aunt died at the age of 104. She was just a young child during WWI but still used to tell us chilling stories about when the air raid sirens used to sound. Most of us live at a fortunate time and place.
Primary schools are doing memorials on Tuesday at 11 am! I dunno what remembrance Sunday is honey, as far as I know we always do it on the 11th
In the UK, Remembrance Sunday is held on the second Sunday in November, the Sunday nearest to 11 November, Armistice Day, the anniversary of the end of hostilities in the First World War at 11 a.m. in 1918.
Yep in France too, huge ceremony in the Arc De Triomphe with the Unknown Soldier and all that... We observe 1 minutes of silence, not 2 tho
In Canada, it's celebrated on the 11th minute, 11th hour and 11th day of the 11th month. Both my grandparents were born during the Second World War. One of them had to survive off yam and soy sauce for 9 years. Also, somebody shot the soldier guarding the National War Memorial (The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier) and broke into Parliment. That comes to me as a desecration of the ultimate sacrifice many Canadians made in order for us to live free to this day.
Megan. Go before you make a fool of yourself. 11 11 11. It's not the 9th. They just do it on the ninth.
Katie, i would imagine that Veterans day and Remembrance day are the same. 11th month 11th day 11th hour?
It's the 11th day of the 11th month but I've never heard of an 11th hour. Most of the time people visit monuments or hold services to remember those who have fallen and the ones still serving.
