  2. Chapter 3
So I had my examinations, and Monday's the last paper. I tried to squeeze in time for this. I'm studying so I didn't proof read it, so sorry for mistakes.
Also ignore the crappily done poem, I just didn't know any other way to make it seem more... ritual-ish.
    ~*~^~*~
The door slammed shut behind us, and I started switching on all the heaters in the house. Alex, surprisingly, helped me and I smiled a thanks at him.

"I'll show you your room," I mumbled, walking up the smooth wooden stairs, hearing Alex not far behind me. He seemed to have no interest in what the house looked like. However, he made a huge effort to stare at the pictures of me growing up, baby me at the bottom and pre-teen me at the top. I had never stopped to notice the pictures before, but suddenly, his presence made me much more self-conscious.

I led him through the narrow hallway to a door opposite the door which was clearly mine, having been decorated with the red letters of my name. I held it open.

"This is my older brother's room when my family visits. I'll just tell him that you'll be using it."

Alex nodded, walking into his room. He dropped his bag on his bed and looked at me with an eyebrow raised. He folded his arms, "Can I get some privacy, or are you intersted in having some fun?"

I blushed quickly and backed out of his room, muttering an apology under my breath.

I spun around and opened my door, disappearing into my room. I heard Alex's door close silently a bit after. I sat down at my table, zipping my bag open. I only had one piece of homework, and it was for math, my best subject. I finished it in minutes and started editing the video I recorded in the morning.

By the time I was done uploading the video, it was already 3.45pm. I sighed and walked to my wardrobe, picking out a casual outfit for the dinner at Ryan's place. Walking into the cool, bright bathroom, I hummed a tune that I could not place the origin of. The moment I shut the door, my voice was amplified, but I made no move to soften it.

I proceeded to hum at the top of my lungs while I showered, and only when I finished did I stop. I changed into my white singlet with my demin jacket and dark blue jeans, completed with a red scarf knitted by my grandmother. I smiled.

By the time I was done, it was 4.30pm, so I stepped out of my room. Coincidentally, the jerk who I forgot was living at my house also opened the door to his room, hair damp. He gestured for me to head down first as the hallway was only large enough for one person to pass through at once.

I looked at him weirdly for a while before heading down the hallway and down the stairs.

"Your singing is nice, why are you in the theatre department?" He commented behind me.

Relieved that he couldn't see my blush, I replied, "My singing isn't good,"

"Then what was that while you were showering?" He asked.

I shrugged, and changed the topic. "You got enough money for the materials for school?"

    "Yea," he replied simply.

"Enough for a bike?" I looked behind and saw him nod.

"Then why don't you buy a house to live on your own? Why live with us?" I asked, curious.

"We're only here for a short while, we'll be gone after we're finished with what we came here for." His tone made it final, as if I was not to ask any more questions about it.

"Do you have a phone?" I asked, realising that he might get lost.

He nodded, going back to his 'wall response' mode.

He wrote down something on a piece of paper and passed it to me.

I sighed while pocketing the piece of paper, then heard Ryan's car outside. I gave Alex a last look and tossed him my extra set of keys. "Lock up when you're done."

He caught it effortlessly and I ran to the door, opening it and finding Ryan standing there, grinning. "Ready, Milady?"

I stepped out, closing the door behind me. "Yes, Milord," I hooked my arm around his, fooling around.

We walked to his car. Ryan held the passenger door open for me while I hopped in. He shut the door and he hopped into the driver's seat. Ryan drove us to his house.

    Narrator's POV

Alex scowled at the two idiots outside, acting like fools, his mind filled with hate, for... for what? He growled, angry with himself. He received a rough shove from his mind.

"Would you just stop your jealously for the damned girl?" he heard Hayley speaking in his head.

"It's hurting us, bro." Lucos added in.

"I think what they meant to say was that we can feel the jealously through pain physically on our minds," Sera said quietly, trying to prevent a messy mental fight.

All their voices, even Sera's, though she tried to remain calm, could be heard trembling.

"Stop listening in to my thoughts," Alex said, grumbling, "And I am NOT jealous of the idiots!"

The three winced at the intensity of Alex's mental power and mumbled their apologies.

"Meet you guys in town in thirty, we'll buy our stuff to convice them then start the ceremony. Sera, look for a suitable place where nobody can see us. Lucos, go prepare the spiritual items. Hayley, help me draw an outline for the ceremony," Alex said, "We'll have to start at six, so make it snappy."

In thirty minutes, they met in town. In just fifteen minutes, they had bought their necessary school materials, including Alex's bike. By the time they were in an isolated forest that Sera doused for, it was almost six. The four of them set up their ceremonial circle and stood at their respective spots, each with a candle and a ribbon, both of the colours of their eyes.

They closed their eyes, just before the first chime rang, far away.

    "Today the wise four unite,
    Strong, Merciless, Kind and Bright.
A common goal, for balance and peace,
To destroy evil and bring them to their knees," Alex recited, following his instinct. The blue, red, gold and black candles lit up in that order.

    The second chime rung.

"Foolish, the four had grown naive,
They though they had more than they could give.
Wanted and hunted, they were forced to hide.
If not, trouble would never leave their side."

    The third chime rung.

    "Over time, people perished,
the four were just a simple myth.
    Weakened by dearth of belief,
They lost some of the powers needed to live."

    The fourth.

"The world would falter without the four,
Balance and peace would be no more.
The kings needed their powers to restore the world,
Destroyed by disasters that Mother Nature hurled."

    Fifth.

"Though powerful, even gods need their pawns,
This is who we are calling upon.
Show us who we are looking for,
The ones that will aid us in our war."

The paper strips they were holding started to burn and in a second, they turned to ash. Immediately after, a strong wind whirled around them, whipping their hair around. At the same time, the sky grew darker then it already was, and a murky black smoke surrounded them. However, the four began to glow golden so they could see each other. Suddenly, a figure appeared in the circle. It was laughing, but there were no details to show who it was, save the silhouette.

The details began to appear, though blurry, but before it could, rain poured, the candles stopped burning and the sixth chime rung, and everything except for the rain disappeared. Now, everyone noticed Alex on his knees due to exhaustion and looked at him worriedly.

As soon as the gigantic clock far away went to the next minute, Hayley, Sera and Lucos broke out of their spots and ran to Alex, bombarding him with worry.

Alex looked up and stared at them, irritated, and all they got from him was two words.

    "Why that person?!"

  4. Chapter 4
This is kind of a filler chapter, idk.
    ~*~^~*~
We arrived at Ryan's home. He parked the car and quickly exit the car, jogging over to my side to open the door for me, just like the gentleman he always was. I grinned at him as thanks while he shut the door. He then led the way to the dining room, even though I already know the place like the back of my hand.

Ryan's parents were just like my own, and they always treated me like their daughter. At the time when we entered, they were just setting up the table. Automatically, I went to the kitchen to help them out. Auntie and Uncle looked up as I walked in and immediately stopped, hugging and welcoming me.

"Darling, welcome, Ryan has been waiting for today!" Auntie Nelly said.

"Mom!" Ryan whispered to her sharply, blushing madly.

I laughed at them and started helping out. Uncle Patrick started to protest, but I waved him off. I carring four bowls and sets of utensils out of the kitchen, when I suddenly lost my footing.

I felt myself falling and I automatically hugged the fragile things, away from the floor. However, I didn't feel the pain of my back hitting the floor. Instead, I felt a warm hand behind my back.

I opened my eyes, not realising that I had closed them and saw Ryan, left hand holding a plate of bread and looking at me worriedly.

I blushed as he helped me up, taking the cutlery from me and passing to me the light plate of bread. "Thanks," I muttered.

Ryan flashed his signature smile, and I blushed harder.

Soon, dinner was set. Auntie and Uncle had made chicken stew, the family's secret recipe.

Time flew, and soon everyone had finished their food and it was time for me to head home. I said goodbye to Auntie Nelly and Uncle Patrick. Auntie Nelly had winked at Ryan, although I caught it, I didn't know what was going on.

I followed Ryan to his car. As usual, he was a gentleman, holding open the door for me. I smiled, and he smiled his smile at me.

When he started up the car I spoke, "Your parents are lovely, as usual."

"Not usually," Ryan chuckled, "They'll show their inner demons soon enough."

"I refuse to believe that," I laughed.

    "It's true!"

"Whatever you say," I turned up the volume of the radio and bopped my head to the music. After a few songs, Ryan pulled up at my house. He switched off the car and did his usual gentlemanly things, walking me to my door.

"The adore you, you know, Jayley? They want you to be their daughter. They already treat you like one,"

"I don't think my parents will be too fond of your family adopting me," I laughed, but stopped when I didn't see Ryan smiling, "What's up?"

"There's another way for you to become their daughter," Ryan said, looking into my eyes.

I blushed hard, realising what was coming next.

"I really really like you, Jayley," he said, slightly awkward. "I've never felt this way for anyone, except for you,"

I opened my mouth, going to ask when did he he start, but he continued, as if he could read my brain.

"Ever since we were seven, when I always got bullied for being a short crybaby, you stood up for me. Shouting at everyone and defending me. After that, nobody bothered me anymore,"

"When we were twelve, you stayed up and snuck out of your house when your parents were asleep. You cycled all the way to my house and exactly when my birthday came, you knocked on my window and wished me happy birthday. I still remember what you gave me. At that time I was obsessed with the gameboy, and you had made a look alike just from cardboard." He chuckled at the last part.

"A few years later, when some guys influenced me to start smoking, you knocked some sense out of me. I always thought that you were too amazing for me, and I wanted to be able to match up to you. I know that don't deserve you as my best friend, but I wouldn't be able to live without you."

I blushed, not knowing that he had felt this way about me. All those little things that she had forgotten that she had done, he had remembered.

"I want to be with you forever, Jayley. Even if I don't deserve you. I swear I won't ever hurt you. Will you go out with me?" Ryan looked like he was about to cry.

I looked into his eyes, and saw everything that had happened the past 17 years, and realised that I felt the same.

I nodded, laughing and almost burst into tears. As I hugged him, I felt how nervous he had been and how much he was shaking, but after a while, he calmed down.

"Thank you so much, I won't let go of you, I swear." He smiled again. At that moment, I realised that that smile had always been able to make me melt, I had just been denying it all along.

"It's getting late," I said, "your parents will worry about you."

Ryan nods and kisses my cheek, before jogging back to his car. "Good night! Sweet dreams!" he shouted and drove away.

Smiling all the way, I went to my bedroom, took a shower and fell asleep.
