    What is Ebola? 

Ebola is a very dangerous filovirus named after a river in Zaire, its first site of discovery,1976. This filovirus is usually fatal, and it affects monkeys, apes and humans. Filoviruses are string-shaped, with a little hook or loop at one end. This virus is causing the biggest problems in Western Africa. Medical experts all over the world are taking steps to stop Ebola and to treat the people who are sick, in isolation.

How do you know if you have Ebola? [/b]

The first signs of Ebola can appear from 2 to 21 days after someone has been exposed to the virus. Most people's symptoms begin 8 to 10 days after exposure.
    Early signs of Ebola include:
    • Fever
    • Headache
    • Joint and muscles ache
    • Weakness and tiredness
    • Sore Throat
    • Chills
    The symptoms are:
    • Fever (greater than 38.6°C or 101.5°F)
    • Severe headache
    • Muscle pain
    • Weakness
    • Diarrhoea
    • Vomiting
    • Bleeding

    How do people protect themselves?

There is no vaccine to prevent Ebola, although scientists are working to develop one. It can be hard to prevent the disease since doctors aren't entirely sure how it infects people at the start of an outbreak.
The best way to guard against Ebola infection is to avoid places that have had outbreaks.
