A/N So, here's a little series of stories, in second person, told as the viewpoint of you as Reed. All the names in the story are last names, unless stated. There will be seven in this series of stories, so enjoy! Ali
Monday's Mutant Your eyes are constantly watching every face that passes you as walk through the streets surrounding your base. Nothing seems out of place, even that odd looking person who is following you down the street. They look like they are lost and someone had sent them after you. Glancing back, you see that the person is nearly on your heels. Out of curiosity you stop and the person almost crashes into you. The person is still genderless as they haven't spoken, plus the black hat and matching black woollen scarf block any light on their face. "I have been told you can help me." A female voice came from the shadowed face. "What exactly do you need help with?" You reply, trying to observe the woman's body language. "A... small problem I've had since I was born." She replies. You unconsciously raise an eyebrow, but you have come across more strange things within the agency. "Well that can be anything." You retort casually with a shrug of your shoulders. The woman sighs "I can show you, just not out here." This hugely piques your interest and you smirk before walking back the way you came. "This way." You say as you pass her and the sound of her shoes soon catch you up. The old concrete stairs get slightly darker every time you walk up them due to pollution, but those steps make you feel secure. That's a strange thought, the agency feeling like the safest place when its far from it, you think to yourself. Then you realise quietness surrounds you, looking back you spot the woman stood at the bottom of the steps. "It is safe, trust me. I've been here for three years." You say calmly. She finishes scanning the front of the building. The outside is ordinary, blending into surrounding buildings to be mistaken for the average working building. Obviously, to yourself, it isn't. Hesitantly she goes up the first step, before jogging up the last five to catch up. You press the buzzer "state your code." The typical automated voice states. You think back to your brief that morning, two hours ago now, where you got your code for the day. "45527." You reply and the door unlocks. As you were brought up with manners, you go through the door and hold it open to the woman. "Morning again Reed." Foster says from her seat behind the desk, "morning. I'm helping this lady with a problem she has." You reply smiling. Foster looks at the woman and pushes a book towards her "sign in please." As the woman signs in, Foster shoots you a questioning look causing you to raise your arms in a shrug. The book gets pushed back at Foster and the women looks at you "where now?" She asks. You look at Foster for the confirmation nod, Foster meets your eyes with a sparkle in her own "go on through and enjoy." You head towards your usual door, enjoy? What did Foster mean by that? They put the visiting reason down, obviously the woman had put something interesting down... you push open the door and head down the revealed spiral staircase. "So what can I call you? As you know my name." You ask the woman as you walk down the stairs. She contemplates the choice on whether she should reveal her identity to you. "Well Reed, people call me waterbird." She replies. This piques your interest again "why is that?" "I'll show you when we get to your office." "I have to warn you, there's a couple of other occupants in there, Foster being one." You reply smirking over your own little secret. You reach the bottom of the stairs before she does so you wait out of courtesy, but getting impatient. She jumps off the last step, instead of stepping, ironically, and you walk with her down the corridor. Your feet automatically stop after thirty steps outside your office door. Pushing open the door, you smile as a border collie puppy trots up to you, tail wagging. "You keep puppies in your offices?" Waterbird asks mockingly. The puppy starts growing, eventually shifting into a male human "I am not a puppy." Hay complains, narrowing his copper eyes at waterbird. "I'm no t the only one?" She says in surprise. You and Hay look at each other smiling as you shut the door. "Now, what did you need help with?" You ask, leaning against the steel, but wooden in appearance, door. Waterbird turns to face you, a palm outstretched with a spring of water spouting from the middle. Hay shrugs "that's nothing major." Waterbird turns around and suddenly Hay is on the back wall of the office, his clothes drenched. "That is why. Every time I get angry, I explode." Waterbird elaborates. Hay grumbles "you don't say." As he peels himself off of the wall and you can't stop yourself from laughing. Foster knocks on the door, which you know as she does a specific knock. You open it and Foster bursts into laughter at the sight of Hay. "I'm glad you two find it funny." Hay grumbles. Waterbird looks between the three of us "what help can you give me?" "They're expecting you down the hallway. Turn left and follow it to the end and to into the door in front of you." You say and Foster steps aside to allow Waterbird through. Waterbird smiles at you "thank you." She walks out of the office and that's the last I see of her. Foster shuts the door "do you know the reason she visited?" Hay and yourself look at Foster " What did she put them? I'll bite." Hay replies causing Foster to look at you biting her lip. You suddenly realise this could be extremely funny otherwise Foster would never say. "She put to wind up Hay." Foster laughs, showing you a picture of her reason. You start laughing and Hay wanders over "what? Let me see that!" He snatches the camera and looks at the picture. All you can say is "well, that's Mondays mutant for you."
Tuesday's Triceratops Everything around you is quiet as you walk along the streets back towards base. Now you think about it, suspiciously quiet. You look behind you, expecting something to happen, and it does. Screams come from in front of you and soon, streams of people push past you while you are stood in the middle of the pavement. As it's your job, you start walking in the direction that the stream is coming from. You know when you have reached the agency as Foster and Hay join you, pushing against the stream. Foster speaks into her headset "we just got a call. Something extremely old that shouldn't be alive was all the information we got given." "Waterbird called that in didn't she?" Hay questions. You look at the pair "so she stayed?" You ask as the crowd was only a drabble now. "Yeah, the training really helped. I'm still trying to figure out who she is though." Hay responds. You look in front of you as a guy comes running around the corner towards your trio. "You guys are crazy!" He calls to your trio as he passes. Like yesterday, your curiousity picks up. When your trio turn the corner you see why. Stood in the middle of the street was definitely something that is extremely old and shouldn't be alive. The triceratops in front of you roars causing you to cringe. You look to Foster she has the same reaction as yourself. Hay, however, cherishes the moment, he walks to in front of you and Foster, turning to face two. He claps his hands "so what's our plan?" He questions watching you. "Well moving from where we are stood might help." You comment watching the triceratops looking Hay. "Why is that Reed?" He looks at you confused as Foster runs to her right. You grab Hay's arm and pull him to your left as the triceratops charges past. Hay looks at you "okay, I made a mistake." He says quietly, his ego bruised. The triceratops stops his/her charge, as you can't really tell which gender it is when Waterbird puts her hand up. You look at Foster across the street and she shrugs, not knowing when Waterbird got there either. Waterbird calmly lowers her hand and the triceratops lowers his head. You and Hay realise what it is going to do. Before you can call out, Hay shifts into a triceratops. "What are you doing?" You hiss at him quietly and he looks back at you "trust me." Hay replies. Hay roars quietly, making the real triceratops turn to face him. It tilts its head curiously, knowing that Hay wasn't a triceratops before. Slowly, it turns round and pads up to Hay. It sniffs the air curiously as Waterbird runs to Foster. "Hey buddy." You say quietly, approaching the now calm triceratops. It stares at you, its glassy yellow eyes blinking at you. Confidently, you step forward again and hold out your hand, palm open upwards. The triceratops sniffs your hand carefully, then you stroke the top of its nose. To your surprise, the triceratops welcomes your touch, eventually laying on the ground. Hay shifts back to his human form and pulls a rope out of a pouch on his belt. He hands to rope to you so you can, loosely, tie it around the triceratops' neck. The triceratops' eyes widen slightly in fear over the sight of the rope. You hand the rope back to Hay as you shake your head "it will follow anyway. It doesn't need the rope." "Are you sure?" Hay questions quietly. "Just take the rope Hay." You reply and he takes the rope. Foster and Waterbird stand watching, waiting for a signal of some kind. You raise your hand and the triceratops stands, so you start walking down the street to the agency. The triceratops follows you curiously, trying to see where you are going. Unfortunately, the triceratops is too big for the front entrance, but the back entrance is big enough for the triceratops. You lead it through the streets and Foster suddenly joins you. "Can I call you dinosaur tamer now?" She asks jokingly, turning down an alley. You can't stop yourself from chuckling as you go down the alley "no you can't. The poor thing was just misunderstood." Foster shakes her head "Doctor Dolittle." You both laugh as you turn into the back yard of the agency. The back door rises like a garage door to let them in.When the slight noise of the door clicking in place reaches the triceratops' ears, it freezes. You turn around and click your tongue, the triceratops relunctantly continues it. When it reaches you and Foster, you can't help smiling. Foster puts out her hand and the triceratops nudges her hand. Her face breaks out into a smile which you adore and love so much. Which you try to get out of her as much as you can, but it never works. You could never be with her, it was against policy for relationships. There are harsh consquences if you get caught, and that's if you get caught. Most of them have been, but a few have slipped under the radar. One of the other agents lead away the triceratops as Waterbird and Hay join you and Foster. Waterbird had a smirk on her face which made you think Hay still hasn't guessed who she is. "Well that was fun." Waterbird comments, clapping her hands together like Hay did earlier. You look at Foster as you know Foster was looking at you. That is when it hits you they both have a mutant of some form of manipulation, extremely similar in personality. That can only mean one thing… You smile and reply to Waterbird, "no that wasn't fun, that was Tuesday's triceratops." Hay shakes his head "you have a bad habit of naming days like that you know." You grin "I thought you would be used to it Hay." "No he wouldn't, it takes too long for him to get used to things." Waterbird replies instead and walks away. Hay watches Waterbird walk away "but how…?" He says speechlessly. "You should be speechless more often, it suits you." Foster comments laughing, causing you to chuckle at Hay's lost expression.
Thank you (/-\) I have a story called Numbers on page two or three which I am trying to write an update for, I just get distracted easily…
