  1. Hello. I am proposing a new role playing game for the community to enjoy. Please read the following text thoroughly for more information.

Roleplay: How to Kill a Dragon

    OVERALL INFORMATION

Brief Description of Roleplay: The role play is situated in an old, traditional fantasy setting. A dragon has attacked the mythical lands of Cornell -and it is up to <you> (the participating party) and a group of adventurers to slay the wicked beast. The lands needed heroes to save them, can <you> rise up to the challenge?

Setting: Situated in a traditional fantasy setting, you'll recognize the familiar tale of slaying a dragon, with a difference. The tale with start immediately before the battle with the Dragon. The group of adventurers will face with the dragon head on immediately from the start.

Length of role play: IF the suggestion is well received by the community of PIMD and I am capable to actually execute the role play -I am planning it to be a medium to long length role play. It'll differ though, and this factor depends heavily on the participating parties, circumstances and the scenario. This factor is not set and can change unexpectedly during the role play.

Goal/Objective: The goal is simple and straightforward, as your only objective is to kill the dragon. This objective can be achieved in many ways -depending on the circumstances. This role play will end as soon as the dragon is slain, this is why the length of the role play will most likely be different according with the situation.

    SCENARIO

    A. Participating Characters

The role play casts in this scenario will be divided into 3 main groups. The first group will be [Controllable Characters], [Supporting Characters], and the last one is the [Enemy]. More information about them will be divulged in the lower text.

With the concerns to ensure a more satisfying and hopefully more immersing role play, I thought it would be best to only allow a 4 minimum and 7 maximum players to this role play. As much as it will be more open and accessible if there were not a limit of players, it'll seem to be more chaotic and hard to understand. Suggestion about this limit would be appreciated.

    A.1. [Controllable Characters] or
    known as the Players

This group of players are the ones that the role players will control. They will consist of a minimum of 4 players, and 7 as the maximum. This group of characters must work together to slay the [Enemy] which is the <Dragon>. They each have their own roles within their parties, divided to the generic role of a fantasy adventure party. They are divided to the [Essential Role] and [Optional Role]. They are divided this way in case of there are only 4 players participating, all of them must only choose the [Essential Role] in order to have the most balance spread of roles. In the case if there are 7 players participating, they are free to either choose the role available in the [Essential Role] and the [Optional Role].

There can only be ONE PERSON PER ROLE.

    A.1.a. Essential Roles
Essential Roles consists of the generic role of Warrior, Magician/Sorcerer, Thief, and Cleric/Healer. Each of them have their own capabilities. They are essential because they have the most balanced spread and most better potential of slaying the <Dragon> if there are only 4 people participating. But nevertheless, there are certainly greater potential of killing the dragon if there are 7 people participating.

    A.1.b. Optional Roles
Optional role consists of the more diverse character and roles one can use in a fantasy universe, and this roles are open to suggestions and preferences of the players (as long it has an existence in a fantasy setting -not like a cyborg-, and has been discussed first.). Preset optional roles consists of roles like Lancers, Archer/Ranger, Monk, and others. Keep in mind, even though there are 7 players participating, there still must be 4 players filling in the [Essential Role]. All of the Optional Roles also have their own abilities.

    A.2. Supporting Characters

Supporting characters are non-controllable characters that only the GM (or to specify, the writer of the role play) can control. They are only to types of this group of characters, <Aeon the Guide> and <Living Souls>.

    A.2.a. Aeon The Guide
His name is rather self-explanatory. Aeon will be the one who gives the players explanations and hints to the <Dragon> behavior and further actions, and thus making it easier for the players to slay it. His existence is IMPORTANT. The <Dragon> is capable of killing the players with almost no warning and the players must pay attention to its actions. Aeon will sometimes give suggestion or subtle hints, and it is important to listen and figure out the meaning of his sentences. The <Dragon> will mostly ignore him, but it is advisable for the players to try and save him if he is in danger, because he has no combat capabilities. He is not immortal and can die. Not much is known about Aeon, but he is very knowledgeable about the <Dragon>.

    A.2.b. Living Souls
Living Souls are remnants of a dead player. If one of the players are killed during battle with the <Dragon>, they will turn into Living Souls, and more specifically, a ghost-like form that can interact with the universe, but in a very limited way. The Living Souls has an ability of distracting the Dragon for a short moment, but other than that, they have no more capability, so it is advisable to stay alive. They cannot be killed as they are already dead. Offscreen though, they can privately give the GM suggestions on how to continue the role play.

    A.3. Enemy
The enemy, or the <Dragon> is the nemesis and the objective of this role play. This beast is a powerful foe that has struck terror throughout the vast lands of Cornell, rampaging and destroying those who dare stand in its way. A terrifying beast, it is cunning, powerful, and will kill everything that stands to face it. It is a foe who you will not wish to face in any normal circumstances. The dragon is also dangerous because of its unpredictable behavior, and the only way others can anticipate its actions is by observing it, recognizing it's behavioral patterns, or consulting with <Aeon the Guide>. Players must be adaptable and work together to defeat the <Dragon>.

    GAMEPLAY

    • It is played the same as other role play in the forums, actually. You type in the action you wanted to take and post it. The actions that you take in this game can and likely will have bigger consequences though. The example is like that you have a cleric take a stupid action by charging it straight to the dragon on his/her own, without any backup or actual plan at all. One could see that this is a illogical idea and shouldn't be taken at all, and the <Dragon> can simply kill her/him on that instant. The <Dragon> will not turn down any offer and opportunities to kill players. (Please do not assume this instances as something personal. The <Dragon> is simply merciless and volatile -it won't take pity on a player.)

    • There is a [Status Effect] system in this role play, as long it is used logically. The [Status Effect] consists of usual rpg games, like <Paralysis>, <Sleep>, <Dizzy/Confused>, <Charm>, <Burn>, <Freeze>, and <Knock Out>. [Status Effect] can be obtained from poisons of a Rogue, spells of a Sorcerer, songs from a Bard, or even from interacting with your environment, such as touching or eating something.

    • Since this Role Play will consists of most likely a lot of battling, action scenes, it will be more suitable if each role play will be at least a paragraph long, and this will also help to improve the details of the game. A-

"player X slashed his sword down the Dragon's body"

-kind of role play seems like it wouldn't work very well with this role play.

    • In order for the players to keep track of how much closer they are to defeating the <Dragon>, every time the <Dragon> took an action and did something, you can find a HP bar at the bottom or top of the reply, and most likely the notification of the ongoing [Status Effect] that are still effective on the players or the <Dragon>. This health bar can be decreased by launching a successful attack on the <Dragon>.

    • and others. The other aspects of this role play gameplay will be explained and updated at a later time if the need of it persists.

    NOTES and CONCERNS

    • This role play is more restrictive then the other available Role Play that exists on the PIMD forums. This is my main concerns. Will anyone play a restrictive role play?
    • The theme might seem overused. A dragon to slay will be a straightforward goal but can be a boring one if it's too overused and boring.
    • There are already a ton of Role Play in the PIMD forums, and I am also not sure if this one will stand out much. I do not want to trouble others with a badly made role play.
    • If this role play does get on its way, I am worried of an irregular schedule of this updating.

    --------------------///--------------------

That is my idea of a role play, and I am wondering if anyone is interested enough on how it turns out or is interested in playing it? This is still a SUGGESTION and this is not set in the stone yet. I was interested with how the reaction would be. IF there is an actual interest though, here is the character creation page below:

    • Name:
    • Age:
    • Role:
    • Appearance:
    • Background:
    • Personality: (this is an important part of the character, don't act in a way that your character won't!)
    • Style of Fighting: (is your character aggressive? How do your character prefer to fight? Is he/she quick and agile or prefers to overpower someone with brute strength or a sharp intellect?)
    • Preferred Weapon: (Self-explanatory. Most likely related with his/her style of fighting.)
    • Strength/Ability: (make sure this slot is also filled in a related point with your role, and please, no god-modding.)
    • Weakness: (can be mental or physical. Everyone has a weakness.)

Thank you for reading all the way through, I know this is a long post. Is anyone interested? Suggestions, and comments will be appreciated. Thank you very much.

  2. I know people are always complaining about how there is little detail in most role plays but still, in a way, it's good to have not much detail because it allows more freedom within the rp.

However, with this rp (in my opinion) there's way too much set detail and set rules about what can or can't be done and how the rp has to go.

    Even though you've written a long post to explain the rp, it's actually still rather basic;
Limited number of people, slay a dragon, set in a mythical town, ends when dragon is dead.

You said that this will be a medium to long rp but to be honest, it might not be as so little will happen.

  3. Thank you very much for your honest opinion, then. Yes, I agree -there is too many set rules to obey and that won't be as fun as a free roleplay where people can do whatever they want. Well, I think it won't be done, then. I don't want people to feel restricted and not having fun when role playing. Thank you very much for replying.

  4. I be da rainbow fairy. Shoot rainbow. Dragon die. The end.

  5. Thank you for the satire, Eglantine :)
Yes, it's a rather bad concept, altogether. I should've thought more about the concept to attempt a flexible and fun role play.
