Sometimes you've got to grow up.

Sometimes you think you've grown up, but you haven't - you just know how the world works, not how to deal with it. You've watched it work, you've understood it, but if it were to slap you in the face and test you, you'd be surprised to learn how much of a wise person you're not. You don't get any merit from knowing the world and its way of working until you're really tested - personally tested.

So you leave home. You leave your protective parents. You leave your supportive friends. You leave love. You leave it all to be alone with yourself, to understand why you are so frail and how not to be any more. You set off to face your fear - the same fear that made you run away from it all in the first place.

It is as if you migrated north during winter. Towards winter. So you face the cold, naked and afraid.

And you find out that it isn't so bad. You find something to like in it. And it makes you stronger, and fearless. And when it's over, even though it may have been gloomy and hard, you leave it behind to dive into spring.

And how joyful can spring be. You're now strong and you're not afraid any more. But most of all, you're independent, surrounded with equals. You embrace them all and you embrace the world. There may be excess, yes, but it's a little price to pay. It's the final lesson of your seasoned journey of maturing.

When it's summer again, you're tired, but wiser for the time. It's time to come back. It's time to try the test again. If you're still not ready, you'll need another winter. But if you're finally up to it, your reward will be a long summer and a fruitful autumn. So you come back, to be tested once more. It's summer, and it's yours.
