  8. The Fallimg
    Chapter 4
    Zara's POV

I spun around and ran back to the school. I could hear his heavy footsteps behind me. This guy is freaking insane! What was he talking about? It made absolutely no sense, but I didn't have time to think about that. I pushed myself to run faster. I wasn't captain of the soccer team for nothing.

As I turned the corner onto school campus, I collided with someone, almost pushing us both to the ground. Thankfully, they caught their balance and I managed to slow to a stop. I huffed and puffed for a few moments before I looked up and locked eyes with Marcus.

He grabbed my wrist and pulled me down into the bushes seconds before the man came speeding around the corner.

He kept going across campus and disappeared behind a building.

I sighed and looked over at Marcus. He was looking at me with such focused intensity, that a small shiver crept down my spine.

"What," he asked, his voice softer than I expected, "Did that man say to you?"

I stared at him, dumbfounded, for a moment before I spoke. "He said he was going to kill me."

Marcus's eyes narrowed and, still holding my wrisr, he he pulled us from the bushes. He started walking, with me trailing behind him.

"Hey!", I almost yelled, "Who was that? Where are we going?"

He kept walking and led me around the science building. I thought I had an idea of where we were going. Behind the science building is an old marble gazebo. It's crumbling and has lost two of its columns already, but people still use it.

He led me up the three steps and let go of my wrist as he sat on one of the marble benches. I stood for a moment and sat down, leaving about a foot of bench between us.

"So, do I get an answer?" I asked as I stared at my feet.

He sighed and ran a hand through his almost white hair.

"Yeah, I guess I do owe you an explanetion," he chuckled, but it sounded hollow.

"Okay?" I said, uncertainly, waiting for this so called explanation.

He clasped his hands together and leaned forward with his elbows on his knees. "You remeber all the bedtime stories your parents used to tell you? The fairy tales?"

I shook my head "no". My father had died when I was very young and I lived with my stepmother, as no knows who my real mother is.

"Well, do you know anything about reincarnation?" He asked.

    I nodded, "I'm Buddhist."

"Good," he said, "Then maybe you'll understand why that man wanted to kill you."

"Okay...", I was still waiting for an explanation.

"All the fairy tales- they're lies. The happy endings- didn't happen. Cinderalla, Little Red Riding Hood, Pochontas, Goldilocks, and on and on. And all if those people, who never got their happy ending, keep reliving their stories. Some people remeber their past lives, some don't. Like you."

"Me?!" I asked my, voice rising an octave.

"Yes. That man back their, he was the Huntsman. You're stepmother, she's the Evil Queen." He said it so seriously that I was tongtied for a few moments.

"So, if what you're saying us true," I said choosing my words carefully, "and if what the... Huntsman said was true then that means..."

He nodded, "You, Zara, are the reincarnation of Snow White."

    The Huntsman's POV

I knew she had gone this way, so where was she? If I didn't bring back her heart, the Queen would kill me. It'll work out, I thought. I just have to bide my time until I found the girl again. Then she'd die, and I'd reap my reward.

    Marcus's POV

"So, if I'm Snow White, who are you?" Zara's eyes widened, "Who's Chas?"

I smiled. She was taking this all in a lot better than I'd expected.

"Chas is Cinderella," I said and then mumbled, "And I'm Prince Florian."

"Oh," she said, her cheeks turning a light pink, "So you remeber your past lives? Does Chas?"

"I doubt Chas knows anything about this. And I remeber the first and a few others, but not all of them," I glanced around us.

"So, we're reborn because we never got our happy endings?" she asked curiously.

    "Yes, that's why," I nodded.

She hesitated a moment, as if she were thinking deeply about something, "So what happens if we do finally get our happily ever afters?"

I was surpised because I'd not anticipated her asking that question. "No one knows exactly what happens," I said, "I suppose we finally just- die."

(For anyone who doesn't know, Prince Florian is the name of the Prince who is portayed in the original Disney movie, Snow White.)
