Fine Line

  1. I've noticed there's a heavy air of negativityaround forums and it just keeps piling up. I just want to point out that there is a fine linebetween stating your opinion..

    ..and being mean.

You can stand by your opinions without being a jerk basically. There is always a better way to say things. This is a struggle I go through as well which is why I wanted to discuss it.

The forums is a great place to discuss our ideas and thoughts with each other. It's also a place where negativity breeds so easily. A comment by a person can ignite mob mentality.

Just take a step back and really think about what you're saying. You have the right to speak but you also have a duty as a human to not step over other people's rights.

And besides the right of speech, people also have the right to be respected.

  2. Seriously though, personally, if you aren't ready to take the insults that come your way, stay off the Internet. There will always be people that troll and speak their mind in a not-so-nice way.
That's just life. I'm not saying that that's an excuse to be rude, but Yolo.

  3. Completely agree. Well spoken/typed, Nick.

  4. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all

  5. That's like saying people should avoid the streets because they can get mugged. The issue isn't people who get hurt. It's the culture that someone will always be out to get you anyway so it's okay to disrespect people.

    Bottomline is, it isn't right.

  6. Might not be right, but it happens.

Some things you just can't change, and rudeness is one thing hat will always be around.

  7. Very true. There's a way to get your point across without attacking someone, also when people state opinions, there's no need for anyone jumping down their throat for telling it how it is. Can't make everyone happy all the time.

But it's the internet and people feel big hiding behind their screens. Trolls will always troll.

People should remember to let things roll off their back. You shouldn't let words on a screen from someone you really don't even know ruin your day. It's a game...have fun, don't be too serious and carry over into your rgular life.

  8. I would comment but it's hot and I don't feel like commenting.

  9. I completely agree, there really is no need to be hateful on forums xD

  10. Welllll…There does come a time when negative comments become a little too much. You may think you're just being funny, but you never know how to opposing person is feeling about the situation. Being rude and mean on the internet is considered cyberbullying, which is not a laughing matter.

BUT, to be on the other side of the argument, you should at least be mature enough to know what kind of internet websites you should be on. It's really just your decision to continue playing an internet based game. But people do have a right to enjoy the thing they're doing without being downgraded.

Also, most people only get mean to other because one person starts the argument and then it just escalated from there. It doesn't matter who starts it; it just takes the bigger person to end it.

So in the end, #yopo (You only PimD once.)
Not really, but let's use our imaginations.

Yopo support. That's just my two cents.?

  11. The issue is some people aren't even trolling. It's the mob mentality that gets to me. People can usually tell who's just trolling. But you have to admit, people take it too far a lot of times.

There is no excuse. I'm not saying we'll completely remove disrespect because that is impossible. But an improvement on being mindful of people is possible.

  12. A more positive community IS possible. 

  13. ? Yeah, I agree with you there, mob mentality is a bit too much.

But most of the time it starts out as a few people agreeing with someone's statement, then people join in and before you know it, it's out of hand.

  14. In the words of Eleanor Roosevelt.."Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events and small minds discuss people."Constructive criticisms are preferred. We should abstain a little bit from mudslinging.

  15. Lol agreed. In all honesty it's not that hard to be civil while discussing differences of opinions. You don't have to absofantabulously love everyone that comes along, but you don't gotta stoop to a lower level to make your points come across clearly.

On a related note, while you can disagree with someone else, I think there's a bigger population of wusses being bred and will take literally anything personal. As a game related example, people who get hit once or twice calling it farming saying they're being bullied.

Just about anything (if not everything) is all about balance. Piggy advice for the day: don't let anyone tip the balance for you. Vague but applies to a lot of things, and when it comes down to it, you control you.

    Cheers, good thread Nick :)
