There she was flaming red hair trailing down her back and a smirk planted on her face. It watched from a distance carefully planning my next move. I was hidden in the shadows. She was buying a shirt in the store across from where I stood. Her name was Ellie and I knew her, I really did. She was 18 and I knew her favorite food, color, and basically every fact. This was the game I was told to play. It was called Raven. Every month or so I was mailed a name of a target and told to track, with it enough money to keep me satisfied. She was my mission and I was enthralled. I moved closer waiting to see where she went next. I was now in the store pretending to browse through some clothes. I knew she saw me and I wanted her to although I knew I wasn't supposed to. I wasn't supposed to get attached but I did, and now I had to talk to her. She came up to me and ask, "what's your name". "Jake" I replied. That wasn't my real name and I could never tell her who I was. But, I knew I had to protect her. From the game I was in and from the person who targeted her. Targeted meant you disappeared forever. I knew this because every person I targeted was pronounced dead and missing later. "You seem familiar" Ellie said. From the corner of my eye I could see a man in black coming over. They always came toward the end but never this close, close enough to make contact. " you have to come with me" "Umm... No, I can't just go off with a random stranger" At that point I was desperate and I did what I guess any desperate person would do. I grabbed her and ran. "LET GO OF ME" she yelled People started to look over at us and sure enough the guy backed away. "You're in danger. See the man in black over there" and I pointed to over by the fountain, " he is coming to get you and if you want to live you'll come with me" I wasn't proud of how I handled the situation but I couldn't let her get harmed. I never really knew what happened to the people I targeted but I knew it wasn't good and I was desperate to figure it out. Ellie let me lead her to my car but I could see the terror in her eyes. She was scared but I was her only chance. " where are we going?" "Someplace to keep you safe" I had a safe place which I had long ago bought with the money I was given. i knew it was best not to give away to much information. "I'm going to call the police if you don't let me go" she said. At this point I turned around and said, " the police won't save you from what is out there, only I can help so if you want to live then I suggest you cooperate." I could tell she believed me. "Okay" she relented and she stayed in the back of my car silently crying about what she doesn't know as I drove her to the only place I could trust.
