For all you grammar corrector and Excel spellers please explain this because I'm stumped Why is everybody is considered singular.if the definition of everyone means all of the objects combined why is it still singular because every= more than one.but body=1 body. Is that why it's singular? Because I'm using everybody with a singular verb and my teacher keeps giving me it's an non agreement. ..explain. .
everyone and everybody are considered collective nouns. they are treated as a single body used to form one. therefore, you use a singular verb with those words.
in English those words are not used correctly in plural form. shouldn't you ask your teacher for a better explanation because she's the one marking up your work?
some may try to use them in a plural context, but they are singular. Do these sentences make sense to you? everyone are going to the party tonight. everybody are sad.
Cuz she didn't explain it clearly. She told me because it has body and body =1body. Therefore it is singular. .n it was one example that she gave us but I forgot..If I remembered it Iwwould have wrote it on here so you could see.
For example : Everybody runs to get their bag Runs is plural. ..so it makes sense if u actually read it.but she said it's wrong. everybody run to get their bag.... she said it's correct.. n that's what I don't get
Everybody ran to get their bag is correct as well, but ran is the past tense of run. Everybody and everyone are synonymous collective nouns. Interchangeable.
Unless she is saying that "run" could also be correct in some instances. In which case, someone would have to be giving that direction to other people. For example: A mom says to her three children, "Everybody, run to get your bags." Idk if that makes sense.
