Question for RPers

  1. Howdy! How're things? Hopefully swell.

This has been on my mind for a few days now. I've seen Roleplayers consistently use a formal like so:

    (Name): *action*

Where the name is of a character, but the PoV is first person, and the sentence structure is sometimes errrr... Poor. As in not really a complete, functioning sentence. Me, being more of the story teller (that typically uses third person) type, I can't rap my brain around why you wouldn't use the third person.

One of my biggest complaints about Roleplayers here (not Roleplayers in general- I have no problem with it, I just dislike how it's done here), is that the posts are often short; one-liners; or just lacking much of anything. Like you could have not said anything and everyone would have been just as well off.

So why not write in third person? The length would look much more impressive, and it'd sound a hell of a lot better. Is it for the sake of laziness? Convenience? I'm just not sure.

Thanks anyone who takes the time to enlighten me.

  2. Oh. (Name): *action* words. Like speaking.

  3. I write in third person 

  4. I haven't been exposed to a large variety of posters. It's just something I've seen over the little bit that I looked at.

  5. But it's true that a lot of Roleplayers writer in first person

  6. I actually find it easier to convey emotions via first person. As you should know, I'm not a huge RPer, but I still enjoy creating characters for them. While I use first person for the rare RP, It is also my go-to point of view for stories. For me, I'd rather write:

"I surveyed the apple, quite intrigued by it's unusually bold, red color. Such a pretty red— untainted. Perfect."

    Than

"And so the girl sat there, perplexed by the apple held in her hands. The apple, she thought, was ideal. Perfectly shaped and colored in every way possible."

I find it more personal and a better tool to use when skewing things with different perspectives, which is what I primarily expiriment with. When used in the right way, first person can create a connection between reader and character that can't really be established while in third person.

As for length, I personally don't believe POV is to blame, but sheer laziness.

  7. I see, I see. Thanks for your input!

  8. No problem ^u^

  9. I've always written in third person, first person is just strange to me. Haven't roleplayed in a while though.

  10. When I rp I write (name): (words)*action* just so people know who I am because I have multiple chracters

  11. Hire me and I'll rock your TC 

  12. I'm good, I don't need anything rocked

  13. I've never actually RPd on this app but I played HSH and they had a very active RP community.

For me point of view depends on the type of RP and the number if characters I'm playing. If I'm playing as only a "self" character I prefer to write in first person. Ex.

I grab Through the Looking Glass from the table and return to the barstool. I inhale the pages deeply before flipping to the bookmark. Page number 109.

But in any other RP situation I use third person. As for the short sentences, I can't speak for PIMD but when the RP community in HSH was starting out people RPd much the same way. Ex.

    Joy: sigh! *rolls eyes*

    That was put an end to though once good RPrs showed up. It stopped with one main change; adding rules to the outline of the RP! These would Carrie depending on RP of course but here's a VERY general example;

    ➰ No Godmods
➰ No more than simple kiss.
    ➰ Must have good S

  14. Pov is what
