As the music blared through the radios of the beaten up charger, John and his buddy Eric cracked another bottle of Miller Lite.... John took his beer and rose it up and said "To good health!" John looked out the front window, and he drove off the cliff, the damned cliff that took the lives of many. "HE WAS SO YOUNG!!" Johns mother cried this out 20 times while we sat next to johns bed in the hospital. Eric stood there behind Mrs. Vasquez, his air bag came out and his seatbelt was on, unlike John.... The doctor walked in... He said that John has major brain damage, and offered to take him off life support... We all cried, as they lowered his coffin down into the dirt, six feet under, Eric kept saying "it should've been me, it should've been me" under his breath.... "I'm so sorry John"
The hours ticked by slowly, Eric was a freshmen in college... John was too.... We shouldn't have never been drinking. Mr. Harris gave the class a lecture about the Romans conquest to take over the world... It was boring... I swear I would've fallen asleep but nightmares would haunt me like they have been. "Mr. Rhodes may I please speak with you after class." Mr. Harris looked at Me with his all knowing old eyes.... "I've got homework..." Eric started but Harris cut him off "I wasnt asking you..." "I understand that over our spring break John... Passed on... Is this true?" "It is, now may I please go to my dorm?" I was feeling the tears creep up on me. "You two shouldn't have been drinking... It was God telling you that you should not do illegal things, I know that you two have marijuana and some other things..." For the first time in 2 years, I flipped "YOU D*CK!!! YOU DONT CARE DO YOU?" and then I lunged at him, I grabbed at his clothes, I swung out with blind anger, tears stinging my eyes... After I felt his warm blood on my fist, I turned around and ran out of the class....
I was sitting in my door and my cell phone rang.... I looked at it... The caller ID said Shelby, Shelby and I have been friends since middle school... I pick up "Hey, whats up Eric?!" she sounded happy, as if she just had sex or something Hearing he voice cheered me up a little bit, she was nice to be around, but lived upstate "Who did you just f*ck?" I smiled when she laughed... That defiantly cheered me up "So why you callin?" She giggles a little.. "Open your door..." more giggles I stand up and open the door, Shelby rushes in and gives me a huge hug "Whats up big guy? Where's John?" she looked around, expecting him to jump out of no where and scare her... "Shelby... We need to talk..." After I told her she was in tears, we've all been bestfriends since 7th grade, and now John was dead in a preventable accident. "I'm soo sorry... I..." she was cut off by banging on the door "Police! Open up!" Shelby and I lock eyes.... "oh sh*t" we said this in unison.... The door was kicked in and the cops slap cuffs on me... "What the hell man!" I yelled out in rage and thrusted and kicked, then I felt a hard blunt object on the back of my head, the last thing I saw was a cop moving towards crying Shelby, and then it went dark... Eric woke up and found himself in a police car. He sits up a little bit and strains to look around, the tears have practically glued his eyes shut. One officer looks back and smiles in his face, a toothy smile, as if he were proud of taking him away. "Why am I here?" Eric looks around, the dumbass cops just had to knock him out before they could tell him why they were there. "You have been arrested for the murder of John Vasquez. You have the right to remain silent, everything you say and do can and will be used against you in a court of law." the voice came from the driver, he never even looked back. "What the hell do you mean, I didn't kill anyone!" Eric was furious, he turned bright red. "Why the hell would I kill my best friend, you guys are idiots!" this time no one spoke, an awkward silence fell over the car "That will be discussed In court." The passenger was still smiling, even when he wasn't facing Eric, smiling like a lunatic. Eric sat In a cold cell, it was late and he looked around, he saw the sleeping body of a big black guy In the bed across the cell, the guy had tattoos all over his body. Eric couldn't sleep, he couldn't even think, as if the hard hit to the back of the head completely damaged his brain. He cried every once in a while, and then, after exhaust took over, Eric passed out, the days stress with the stress of his friends death completely took a toll on him... Everything was dark, Eric looker around, no light, it was cold though.... As cold as death. Then he looked up and saw a pair of lights pointing down on him, the lights got bigger and brighter and then there was a large and loud crash, dust flew up his nostrils, and into his eyes. He just stands there, and then the moon shone bright above, as if someone just flicked a switch, and before him was a completely destroyed dodge charger, he approached it, only to find two bodies in it, one was impossible to see cause it was covered in blood and dust, but the other was Eric. Eric awoke from the dream, screaming and crying all at once. He looked around, the cell, it was still dark, and he could here the snoring black man, the room stunk, as if someone pissed themselves, Eric felt his pants, and his pants were soiled..... "Ugh.." that's all he could mutter before he fell back to sleep, this time without a dream
