You can't give a minor the death sentence. It would be considered cruel and unusual punish. Which would make the state of Texas breaking the law and going against the US constitution.
Ehh but you have to realize.... Anything can happen when you drive drunk or not drunk... Just because he made a wrong choice and got in a car wreck doesn't mean he WANTED it to happen... It just happened. Hence why I said accidental. Obviously no one wants to do that to anyone unless you are loony. ✅Yes he made a wrong choice by drinking and driving. ✅Yes the teen shouldn't have been drinking in the first place. ✅Yes, you shouldn't get away with a crime just because you are rich. ✅Yes, his parents should have taught him better and are responsible for how their kid was raised. ✅Yes, the teen should at least get some jail time for this. ✅Yes, when you are 16 you should know right from wrong but a lot of them DON'T! So they make mistakes and learn from them.
No one is disputing that he should go to jail.. maybe not for 20yrs but yes jail time But some people have said the death penalty.. that's what's annoyed Me
That's what I'm saying..... He should go to jail. And no, no one should die so some teen can learn that. Honestly his high school should stress the problems with drinking and driving more. clearly he may not have paid attention.
I live in Texas and work in criminal justice department so I see a lot of mind boggling things. unfortunately, money is the root of all evil. if you can afford a high priced attorney with a success rate of 95%, you're good. Given the circumstances, the kid should've been charged as an adult given that the statute allows it for certain crimes committed. his sentence was puny considering I've seen folks with theft, drug offenses, and non violent offenses get so much more time. 10 year probation is a stretch and also I set-up. he screwed up once and may possible screw up again within the year. At the least, he should've been sentenced to TYC, Texas Youth Commission until 21 and then transferred to adult probation. All in all the incident was a tragedy and this kid will have to live with the poor decisions he made for the rest of his life. @ Peeta...In this day and age we'd want to believe that race doesn't factor into how one is sentenced for crimes committed. however, it does. I won't turn this into a race debate but I will say that in The State of Texas race is an indirect factor. I see it daily not only in criminal just but as it relates to family services as well.
Oh he was charged as a juvenile for 4 counts of intoxication manslaughter. I'd like to think that inpatient treatment would be condition of probation, suspended license, and all that other stuff. I know they can suspend license for drug cases.
Justice is not blind as money talks and the rich walk! The prisons are full of innocent poor people who's crime is the couldn't afford reasonable legal representation!
That's crazy why would any of you think he deserved the death sentence! I'm positive almost all of you have experienced alcohol at some point in your lives and realize that it makes your brain fuzzy. After a certain amount of alcohol your decisions and choices get influenced by the school in your system! But just think 3x the legal limit! that is a ton of alcohol in his blood system expecally since he is 16 their is no way he was thinking early. So to all of you saying it was his choice to drive drunk that may not be the case. This may have all been an accident, ok yes his punishment does seem unfair maybe a couple years of jail and some probation after that plus not being allowed to drive. But I want to ask you all a question.... Would you want your 16 year old child in jail for something that was an accident? This accident that he was in causing him to kill four people will have already messed up his life. Can you imagine what everyone he ever knew and others he doesn't say to him? I feel that the guilt of knowing what happened is a great price he has to live with. So maybe I'm wrong but I feel that the punishment that get got was correct. Many of you if not all will disagree with me but think, does this child deserve the death sentence or jail time when he will be punished for the rest of his life.
This sort of justice does make the justice system seem flawed at least in the USA anyway, I'm not sure with the zero tolerance we have to drink/drug driving in Australia that he would have got away with it but yes money talks so who knows
death sentence no jail time yes. persons get more time for non violent or aggressive crimes than this. he made the poor decision to drink underage and irresponsibly then drive knowing that he was breaking the law. there are consequences to all of our actions. now if the defense used the my parents are responsible defense and got sympathy, does this mean the judge agreed? if so, what should happen to the parents? just a question. I'm not saying that all parents should be held accountable for their kids' actions.
Well someone should be if he's not right? Some family has lost loved ones i couldn't bare the pain that they are going through they deserve justice this kind of judgement places no value on the lives lost it's sad truly awful
you're right Footy, our system is flawed. right now in my county, law enforcement is doing no tolerance until after the new year. DWI is a misdemeanor until you've been arrested for the 3rd time. also if you look at the law, it's misleading. the legal age to drink is 21 however, there are measures for 21 and under 0.2 bac. the penalty should automatically be worse to me. Now look at the death penalty rate for Texas. Texas has executed the most inmates since the reinstatement of the death penalty.
These may not be clear, but they're my states laws for JUST drink driving.. Without the manslaughter due to intoxication.. Mid to high range blood alcohol content readings earn high fines, lengthy disqualifications, and up to 9 -18 months jail time, for the first offence.. Second offence within five years 12 - 24 months jail time.. As Foot said, we have zero tolerance for drink driving here in Aus..
I think in a system that is heavily in favour of a person with money the death penalty shouldn't exist it's unfair I'd suspect ppl with no money would take deals to not recieve the death penalty even though they may be innocent but yeh I'm not sure this is really a great topic for pimd
