The Anonymous Anonymous (used as a mass noun) is a loosely associated international network of activists and hacktivists. A website associated with the group describes it as "an internet gathering" with "a very loose and decentralized command structure that operates on ideas rather than directives". (Source: Kelly 2012) Anonymous originated in 2003 on a imageboard website, representing the concept of many online and offline community users simultaneously existing as an anarchic, digitized global brain. (Source: Baltimore City News) The group is also associated with the satirical open wiki Encyclopedia Dramatica. Anonymous members (known as "Anons") can be distinguished in public by the wearing of stylised Guy Fawkes masks. (Source: BBC News) November 5th commemorates Guy Fawkes' failed 1605 Gunpowder Plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London. Guy Fawkes mask: Broadly speaking, Anons oppose internet censorship and control, and the majority of their actions target governments, organizations, and corporations that they accuse of censorship. Anons were early supporters of the global Occupy movement and the Arab Spring. (Source: 2012) So what's gonna happen on this date? First, the Million Masks March. 17 days a million human beings from all walks of life, and possibly even billions around the world, will stand up, don their ever classy Guy Fawkes masks and descend on Washington DC and other locations around the planet in an event being called the Million Mask March. (Source: Popular Resistance) Secondly, Anonymous threatens to target all government facilities across the globe on November 5 2013, calling activists to mark the day with protests in support of the Occupy movement. Also, a private video made by Anonymous declaring 'war' against the Singapore government was uploaded onto a certain video sharing website a few days ago. In the video it says that The Messiah is just a single hacker and many more hackers will infiltrate the Singapore government websites and databases if their demands are not met. A total of seven Filipino government sites have also been hacked by Anonymous collective. Just like what happened in Singapore, the group posted a video and a message on the hacked websites explaining the reasons behind this attack. The video essentially says that the government hasn’t been at their best in providing what the people wish for. The message says: "The government, in many ways, has failed its Filipino citizens. We have been deprived of things which they have promised to give; what our late heroes have promised us to give. Let us remind the government that fairness, justice and freedom are more than words. They are perspectives." TLR version: Anonymous is gonna have a peaceful protest around the world while wearing Guy Fawkes masks to protest against the "evils" of censorship and control. Anonymous may also launch cyberspace attacks on governments which they feel that is against their ideas of freedom. So what will be happening on 5th November? Do you agree on the actions of Anonymous? What are your opinions on the events of 5th November?
I approve of the actions of anonymous and i wish i were as talented but this is certainly not the place to discuss this. It has potential to ignite.
Also, anonymous, being a adore ate group of people's, do a lot more big projects than what meets the eye. I have done my public and private research on the group.
Their not fake lmao they stole a shît load of money form a company I think or a bank one of those and they donated it to a charity
Sorry, I didn't read any of it ._, I just kept scrolling. But I got freaked out when that big picture came I'll read all of it ._.
In my opinion... The idea behind anonymous is right, but the way they do it is, wrong? Maybe not wrong, but not right too. A grey area. But other than the hacking thing, I don't think the peaceful protests are wrong.
You guys realize that anonymous is considered a terrorist group, so this thread is supporting an act of terrorism? No? Okay then. In before lock, removal and ban.
Hmmm so since TRUTH is trying to bring down Cigarette Corporations by making commercials and stuff telling not to buy their products and all this other nonsense would make them a terrorist group too?
You do know that the thread itself presents no argument for either side...it's the opinions that do...
The TRUTH movement thing doesn't attack global governments. That's why one is considered a terrorist group and the other isn't. How ironic that they are organizing peaceful protests while launching attacks on government websites. Not a very peaceful group, then, is it?
