Offensive for a Birthday?

  1. My younger sister's birthday is this weekend and I decided to give her a somewhat unconventional gift, I'm thinking of getting her a letter (posted below) and the thing the letter describes.

My sister is pretty good at taking jokes, and has a funny personality overall. But I'm worried that this may possibly cross the line between joke and offensive. Do you guys think this is fine or would you interpret it as offensive?

    Dear ________,

I am happy to say that I have known you for the past 11 years. They have had their ups and downs, but I can say with certainty that there have been more ups than downs.

I remember the first time I saw you, I was sleeping over at grandma's and grandpa's house, like we used to do every Friday. Early in the morning on Saturday, grandma and grandpa woke me up and told me that I have a sister and we're going to the hospital to see her.

I don't remember the car ride there, but I remember that hospital was refusing to let me in. You see, they had this rule that only adults and siblings could get in, and since I came to the hospital with grandma and grandpa instead of mom and dad, they didn't believe me when I said was your sister.

Finally, when I was let in, we went to this room where there were a lot of babies. You were all laying in these cribs with papers labeling who you were. We weren't allowed in, but there was a glass divider so that we could see you.

I remember that you were the smallest baby there. You have grown a lot. And I'm sorry to say this, but you'll probably be taller than me in a few years. I know this doesn't upset you, but think about me, now I won't even be taller than you.

The worst part is, height is not the only way in which you have grown. Now, before I tell you how else you have grown, remember to keep an open mind. If you're not open minded while reading this, you might get offended.

From the moment you were born, you have been a nuisance. When you first came home and learned the power of hands and opposable thumbs, you right away started using them, unfortunately for me. I'd be leaning over your crib giving you a toy, playing, or talking to you, when suddenly a baby's hand would come up, grab my hair, and start yanking. Yank! Yank! Yank! OUCH OUCH OUCH! Oh trust me, I was delighted... (note the sarcasm).

You were such a cute baby though, so I forgave you. But as you aged your powers of annoyance have only grown.

Remember a few months ago? In the middle of summer? We were riding in the car and you were being your annoying self. You were talking, babbling on about something, yelling in my ear? Oh, I don't know! But I do remember you were annoying! I also remember saying something along the lines of "ugghh! Why are you so annoying? Can you please just stop?" To what you answered, "Nope, I have an annoying license."

You liar!! You had no such thing! But I do think, that over the past 11 years, you have definitely earned it. So once I wake up, come over to my room and pick up your license to annoy. Happy Birthday, you've earned it.
