People fail to understand that just because the category says off topic doesn't mean that things shouldn't be locked. Almost every thread in off topic has a "purpose" so to say or has a topic in the thread. There are a few that are just random and after awhile a mod will lock saying its ran its course once people get ridiculous on it. Just because the category is off topic doesn't mean every comment on a thread can be off topic too. If you need an example, say someone made a thread about Dogs. Dogs have nothing to do with the game what so ever so it would be categorized as off topic. However, as soon as a number of people stop talking about dogs on that thread, the thread loses its "purpose" so to say and will be locked.
