This is my first thread and I thought that sharing some history about Sweetest Day would be a nice idea. Reason: It has just come to my attention that not everyone knows that this holiday exsist and Sweetest Day is this coming Saturday, Oct. 19th! -Is it something everyone celebrates? -No and this is mostly due to it being a regional holiday in the US. -Is it a way for greeting card companies and candy companies to make money? -Yes! -Is it of importance to me? -Yes! -Why post in forums? -This is an open and public area for all PimD players! The first Sweetest Day was pronounced as October 8, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio and was planned by a committee of 12. The Committee was chaired by a candymaker named C. C. Hartzell. Sweetest Day was originally named "The Sweetest Day in the Year". On this day, the Committee distributed over 20,000 boxes of candy to orphans, old folks, and the less fortunate in Cleveland, Ohio. The Sweetest Day in the Year Committee was assisted in the distribution of candy by some of the biggest movie stars at the time, including Theda Bara and Ann Pennington. Some say that Sweetest Day was started in 1922 by a candy employee named Herbert Birch Kingston, as a way to give something or do something nice to those less fortunate than ourselves. Over time, the holiday's celebration date/day has come to be on the 3rd Saturday in October. What happenes in today's version of Sweetest Day? Well, from my personal point of view, it is the same as Valentine's Day but the opposite person/gender receives the special attention. -How do my husband and I celebrate Valentine's Day and Sweetest Day? -On Valentine's Day, my hubby buys me gifts, takes me out to a nice dinner, treats me like a princess (which he does everyday), devotes his entire day to making me happy. Not meaning he doesn't do this already but it is done in more extreme. I also buy him a gift and enjoy the day he plans out. -On Sweetest Day, I do the exact same but he is the reciever of the attention and gifts and all the lovey dovey stuff. Hope you enjoyed the read and I apologize for any grammatical and spelling errors.
