  1. Where do you stand?

On topics like Religion. What's your Worldview? How do you approach controversial topics?

    So I met this guy,

And he is so wonderful, and he's a thinker. He's always pondering, wondering, and questioning things. Looking for answers. Maybe that's why he's such a science buff. Science provides answers, does it not? But does it provide all the answer?

I'm a Christian. As in I aim to serve and be like Christ. I don't subscribe to a denomination, but nowadays if you don't... that is a denomination (non-denominational ? the irony) Anyhoo he is not; He's an agnostic/atheist.

But, we're both looking for answers. I want to defend my faith, he wants to disprove it, but over all we're both looking for the truth. Sometimes I wonder what really happens after death. Whether there really is a God. What came before everything. What was there before there was a universe? Was it just God. There. In his glory?  How does one accurately prove the existence of a being that even the bible doesn't give evidence of?

The Bible infers in the very first book, that we already recognize that there is a God. "In the beginning God..."  Viola. But that's not good enough for me. I know why I believe there's a God. /).(\ but my reasons don't make sense to anyone else. it's a personal thing! So that's why I've been trying to dedicated some of my time studying apologetics. I want answers, I want evidence, I want to be able to have a reasonable argument about religion where I am not representing myself as some silly Jesus freak.

 Please tell me your opinions on religion down below. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, I'll try to answer them to the best of my abilities.

  2. What did I just read

  3. My thoughts.

  4. I don't know what I think. I don't have a religion, and I don't even know if I believe that a god exists.

  5. I've been questioning my faith lately.

  6. And that's ok Angel. Just think about the possibilities.

Miss Fire, I used to question my faith a lot. Actually I went from false faith, to no faith, gaining faith, questioning it, and now I want to find answers.

It's not wrong to admit you don't know. It's probably the best approach, because honestly most of us don't know. But it helps to try an find answers, in my opinion.

  7. I used to believe it God, unquestionably. I was a Christian, Lutheran to be specific. But life happens and now I'm agnostic. I do agree that it is a very personal thing why you may or may not believe and sometimes it's hard to define; more of a gut feeling or something that you know inside of you.

  8. Everyone has there reasons. My friend was that way, which I now find interesting. She was always a hardcore believer, but now she's arrived at this place where God is no longer a plausible answer to her. It doesn't make sense. She likes to say she steered me down the wrong path.  which is false, she kind of drove me away from Christianity.

  9. I firmly believe there is a God. I've been through too many experiences I shouldn't have lived through not to know this.

  10.  I agree Kansas.  I've been through things that I didn't even think it was possible to escape from.

  11. Was just thinking.. Had this been made known publicly bout around the renaissance period, you'd be marked as a heretic  and probably most hard core Christians these days would do to.
But we have now come to an age where we have access to almost any kind of knowledge. We are now able to speak with people of another religion. As we get to know more, the more we want to know more; as we process these information we start to ask questions.
There is also an issue of the quality of information we get. As humans, these transfer if knowledge if only depends on humans, will be a doubtful source of information. Thus as much as possible they try to record such details on scripts. However what is written would not be entirely true as well since there is still a human factor(that person's knowledge, faith, and/ if influenced by another) involved in writing these scripts.

So where can we find the truth? To the actual persons back in the past lol
Since it is almost impossible to get these from them, then that Faith factor comes in.
How strong your faith determines how much you'll believe in.

My apologies for my long response.  bottom line is, whichever works for you. Have faith or not. Have religion or not. However you live your life is up to you. The past wouldn't really matter much on how you live now.

  12. As a christian you should know that we can never understand God's ways. Our little narrow minds can never imagine God's will, for He is God.

The WORLDLY truth is, the more you know this world, the more you won't know about God. The more intelligent of a person you are, the more you will not understand. In the book of Corinthians, you can read there that God chose the lowly things of the world, the weak to shame the strong.

Walk with other christians to make your faith stronger. Faith is what separates us from the intelligent. We dont need eyes to see, nor ears to hear. God sees our hearts. Seek Him and live by His words. Don't stop believing and spreading the Word. The end will justify the means. May God be with you always.

  13. Nothing wrong with a long response. I do have to say I disagree on some points. The past can be applied to life today. Thats how we learn. Besides there's generally nothing new under the sun. That's why it's so easy to compare past events to things that occur today. Also, even though the information we gt from man is flawed, there's really nothing wrong with using that information. It's all we've got. Especially when I'm trying to form an arguement or some sort of backup for my beliefs. As long as we dont rely too heavily on the information we get from others and we always remain somewhat skeptical, I think it's ok. Just be sure to come to your own conclusions don't just listen to heresay.

  14. Yes planet, but it's one thing to have blind faith. To say you believe whole heartedly in something, but there's no why. I think we have so many christans like that today. Or maybe they do know why, they just don't know how to express their beliefs.

I'm not trying to understand God. Goodness no. I'm trying to backup my faith. I'll still have questions though. You can't be a believer and not have soooome questions. The more you learn, you should realize that's there's a lot you DONT know. BUT the ultimate goal of goal of gaining knowledge is to find answers. And i strongly believe that if we delve deeper into the matter it is inevitable that we come to the conclusion that there is a God. Or not… (for the atheist mind) Which would be total rejection of that fact. But it's not a hardcore fact, because I haven't found the evidence that I so crave.

  15. If science can't prove it, with hard solid evidence, I won't believe it. Not one single religion can be proven.

  16. I would consider myself a Christian, a baptist. At least that's the congregation I would attend if I went to church. I believe there is a higher being out there in the universe that we will never fully understand.

Things happen that people shouldn't be able to live through. Or good things happen to people that you would never see coming. Some would argue good luck, but that solely cannot be the answer. Something out there is turning the tides whichever way that being thinks they should go.

Now I don't believe people of today should live and go by a book written thousands of years ago. Times and circumstances have changed in the world. People should have good morals, yes. That I will tell anyone. Still though, people should completely define their life by a book. Yes it does teach some good principles that people should go by as in Thou Shalt Not Kill, Thou Shalt Not Steal, and Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery. Those there are good principles/morals to go by. Anyone can agree with that.

That's my two cents worth. I think this is a great thread Alice. A good place to hold a discussion.

    Happy Foruming ?

  17. Zach, wow. It's not just religion that Science can't prove. There's a ton of phenomena that science can't explain why or how it happened. Why do think people are so drawn to believing in miracles? Not because it sounds good, but because they CAN happen. There's plenty science can't do. So if we're just gonna say I don't believe it, because science defines it as impossible and illogical then there's a TON you must not believe.

  18. There's this thing called "faith" which is stressed in the bible. Try it out. Works wonders.

  19. Phenomena's have been seen tho, with evidence, all tho they can't yet be explained.
As with religion, no one has seen, all have evidence of any of it happening.
There're a lot of things I don't believe, unless there is non-edited videos of it, or if I have personally experienced it.
Just like ghosts, I don't believe, or these so called monsters like big foot.
Not to come out rude, but unless there is hard evidence, or science can explain it, I won't believe it for real.
However, I do have my own ideas and thoughts of things, such as out futures already being written out and we are simply living as to our own personally books that was written when we were born sort of thing, but at the same time I refuse to believe it because there is no proof of that.  doesn't make sense whilst making sense, sorry lol?
