Prologue It all began the night when I turned six years old. I can remember it clearly, the fireplace lit, my mother sitting with my brother and I. She was reading a story about a mouse and a giant strawberry. It was the middle of winter and it was cold outside. My father came home from work and snuggled next to me and cuddled me close in his arms. It was just a normal and peaceful night and one I would remember for the rest of my life... My mother had just tucked me into bed when there was a loud knock on the door. It scared me and I bolted upright and my mother kissed my forehead and told me it would be alright as she left my room. I could hear my father shout and my mother scream. I heard my little brother start screaming and crying and I leaped out of bed. "James!" I shouted. As I left my room I could see blood splattered all over the walls and two bodies lying in a massive pool of blood on the floor. Both my mother and father lay dead on the floor and I stumbled backwards, covering my mouth with my hand. I ran as fast as I could to James's room and pushed it open. "James!" A long shadowed figure turned to me and my eyes widened as I saw the limp body of my little brother laying on the bed. I could feel the tears streaming down my face and without hesitation I made a run for it. I ran down the long flight of stairs to the front hall. I slammed open the door and ran out into the dark winter night. I ran out into the white snow in my bare feet and ran as far as I could. "Where are you going little girl?" cooed a voice from behind. I didn't dare look back and continued running as fast as I could. I knew I couldn't run forever but I was going to try and make it as far away from the manor as I could. My tears froze against my face from the cold air and I could feel my breathing hasten and it became harder to take breaths. "Come here!" shouted the voice. It was now getting angrier and angrier. I felt my legs giving out and my feet were colder than anything. Moments later I collapsed into the deep white snow. I was going to die. As the figure loomed over me I screamed a blood shrilling scream. He smiled at me, showing his bloodied fangs. "You mustn't run away. Naughty girl," he said as he neared me. Suddenly the being in front of me exploded from within and disappeared without a single drop of blood or evidence he even existed. I could feel myself becoming faint. The last thing I remembered from that night was the handsome man who came to me and picked me up in his arms and told me I was safe. He told me there was nothing more to fear because he would look after me from then on. He was my uncle... Jeremy Kriez. My uncle was a well renowned vampire throughout our world and the Otherworld. He took me in as his adopted daughter and for the next seven years he trained me to be a vampire hunter just like him. For my thirteenth birthday he bestowed the special gun called The Silver Pistol in which he had used against the vampire I had come across when I was six. It was the number one weapon that had been passed down through the generations of the Kriez family. "You will now do your part in protecting this world, Anne," he told me when he passed down the gun. The whole Kriez family was there and I remembered I cried. I cried because it was a joyful moment for me and I had wished my own family; my mother and father were there to see me. But I would do my best in ridding the world of the beasts who devoured humans as a lion would devour it's prey. I would make them pay.
So a clarification, is the brother actually dead? Also, I like this! I was actually surprised, I expected a pedo romance.
I watched as the vampire disappeared into thin air. I had led him behind a bunch of shops after I noticed his stench in the street. It was an easy kill being that he was a level four vampire. I twirled the vampire weapon around my finger before placing it back into belt. "Another one down." "How many is that now?" asked my best friend Kyle Mason. He was my age and I had known him since I came to live with my uncle. He was tall, thin and had short blonde hair that covered nearly half his face. Many would call him handsome but I remembered him this way since forever. In seven years he had not changed. "That makes seven hundred and eighteen gone." "You're one cray girl," he laughed and he nudged me. "Soon you'll be well known throughout both worlds." I nudged him back. "I'm already well known in both worlds. Just yesterday a vampire I hunted down in the West End told me the people in the Otherworld knew all about me. I was actually quite impressed I've made it this far," I said and I smiled wide. "I'm sure you'll continue on and kill all of the beasts who threaten this world." I looked at him and I frowned. "Why do you hate your race so much?" I asked. "We don't have to behave like that. We don't have to kill and eat you humans. I mean. I have survived longer than two hundred years and not once have I tasted human blood. We are perfectly capable of eating human food. So it bothers me to know my kind is so weak." I nodded. "I guess that makes sense." It was true that Kyle was no human but a vampire. He wasn't like others though and was kind and gentle. His entire family were the same and survived on human food. They even took in a human girl when Kyle found her starving in the street. I first met him when my uncle introduced to him and told me of our families connections. He had always been my friend and he was one of the most important persons in my life. "Kyle! Mother wants you to come home now!" Kyle turned and I noticed his eyes become 'happy' when he saw her, "Oh Paula! I'll be home right away. Paula..." "Yes?" "How did you know I was here?" I saw a light blush spread across her cheeks and she looked embarrassed. "W-well... mother said I should follow you so you don't get into any trouble..." "You followed me all the way here?" "Yes..." "You're so honest," he said and he walked over to her. He lifted her chin so he could get a good look at her and into her eyes. "Don't ever change," he said and he smiled gently at her. "I-I won't," she said and she pulled herself away. "I'll see you at home then," she continued and she quickly turned on her heel and sprinted away. "You two are so obvious," I said and I shook my head. "What do you mean?" he asked and he rubbed the back of his neck. He grinned sheepishly and I smirked. "The two of you love each other, don't you? Have you two confessed yet?" I watched as he smiled to himself. "Not yet, but one day I will let her know how I feel about her. At the moment I don't want to burden her with these feelings I have towards her. It may seem obvious to you but she doesn't see it. She still treats me as her older brother although she knows I am not." I patted him on the back. "You can't wait forever, Kyle. She's already fifteen. If you wait much longer she will surpass your age and it will be too late." "I know but when the time comes I'm not sure I can do that to her." "What do you mean?" "I'll have to tell her one day about who I really am and what I am. I'm a coward... I don't want her to hate me or be scared of my true self. I don't know what I'd do if she hated me or feared me." I looked at him and then I looked up into the cloudless blue sky. "From the way she looks at you, I swear she wouldn't give a damn if you were an alien. I can tell she loves you. You're probably her first and probably her last. That's what I can see anyways," I said and I smiled at him. "Don't think negatively of her feelings." "As if I could. She's the only one I've loved." "In two hundred years of living I'd think that you'd have found someone before her." "She's the only be one I've ever been in love with. I've had countless lovers in my life but she's been the only one who's made me feel this way. Since I first saw her in the streets I knew she was the one. I pretty much begged my parents like a little kid and asked them to take her in. I wanted her to always be by my side. Forever." "So romantic... I want someone to love me like that." "Like anyone could like a boy like you." I punched his arm. "I'm not a boy you idiot! I'm a girl and I'm not half bad looking." He raised an eyebrow and flipped my hair with his hand. "I like the dark color of your hair. The only thing that makes you look like a girl is your long hair and those bangs you have. Otherwise your attire," he gestures his hand across my clothing, "is totally a guy's attire." "Shut up. What kind of friend are you?" "An honest one." I shook my head and frowned. "I'll find someone, just you wait. Anyways I'm going to go home and tell my uncle of my duties. I'll catch you later," I said and I waved goodbye to him as I took off into the city. The clouds became an orange and pinkish color. The sun was setting rather quickly below the horizon and I stopped for a minute to watch. It was a lovely view from my city. I looked around and the once busy streets began to calm down as more and more people returned to their families and settled down for the night. I breathed in the evening air and then turned and walked the rest of the way home.
